Laser action on a single spatially chaotic wave function is obtained as a final stable state in a nonlinear dynamical model of a stadium shaped resonant cavity with an active medium. The stable single-mode lasing state corresponds to a particular metastable resonance of the cavity which wins a competition among multiple modes with positive net linear gain and has a distinct lasing threshold.
Injection-Locked Vertical Cavity Lasers exhibit drastically enhanced performance. The 3-dB bandwidth can be increased up to 40 GHz, due to a resonance frequency enhancement. Such VCSELs may play a role in future optical interconnects. c © 2007 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (140.3520) Injection-locked lasers; (250.7260) Vertical cavity surface emitting lasers
With simple optical geometries a separate resonant Fabry-Perot cavity can serve as an optical feedback element that forces a semiconductor laser automatically to lock its frequency optically to the cavity resonance. This method is used to stabilize laser frequencies and reduce linewidths by a factor of 1000 from 20 MHz to approximately 20 kHz.
We examine the near-IR light-matter interaction for graphene integrated cavity ring resonators based on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) race-track waveguides. Fitting of the cavity resonances from quasi-TE mode transmission spectra reveal the real part of the effective refractive index for graphene, n(eff) = 2.23 ± 0.02 and linear absorption coefficient, α(gTE) = 0.11 ± 0.01dBμm(-1). The evanescent ...
Abstract Recent measurements at the LIGO Hanford Observatory have confirmed the predicted high-frequency dynamic response of km scale Fabry–Perot cavities to length and laser frequency variations. The dynamic response functions have been exploited to determine a number of cavity parameters including the cavity length and the resonance width. A new technique based on a variation of these measure...
We propose a method for in situ measurement of the length of kilometre-sized Fabry–Pérot cavities in laser gravitational wave detectors. The method is based on the vernier, which occurs naturally when the laser beam incident on the cavity has a sideband. By changing the length of the cavity over several wavelengths we obtain a set of carrier resonances alternating with sideband resonances. From...
We have investigated the effect of intracavity nonlinear dynamics arising from enhanced peak powers of femtosecond pulses inside broad-bandwidth, dispersion-controlled, high-finesse optical cavities. We find that for chi(3) nonlinearities, when a train of femtosecond pulses are maximally coupled into a cavity by active stabilization of its frequency comb to the corresponding linear resonances o...
Background Left ventricular cavity dimensions and volumes are useful parameters to diagnose and monitor cardiac pathologies which lead to LV volume overload. 2-D echo/ Doppler is the most commonly used imaging modality to assess LV volume overload in patients with valvular regurgitant disease. However, 2-D echo suffers from inherent limitations related to adequacy of the intercostal echo window...
