The results of nuclear structure properties like reduced transition probabilities B(E2) and deformation parameter (β) of even-even 108112 Pd isotopes obtained by Cranked Hartree-Bogoliubov (CHB) calculations and Interaction Boson Model (IBM-I) are compared. The comparison is also made with the experimental values.

This is the first paper in a series of two papers describing a novel generalization of classical hidden Markov models using fuzzy measures and fuzzy integrals. In this paper, we present the theoretical framework for the generalization and, in the second paper, we describe an application of the generalized hidden Markov models to handwritten word recognition. The main characteristic of the gener...

Apraxia is traditionally defined as a disorder of skilled movement that cannot be attributed to elementary sensorimotor deficit, aphasia or severe mental deterioration (De Renzi, 1989). This negative definition has led to integrate within the same framework a multitude of relatively different clinical manifestations, which have little in common with the kind of deficits to which it was original...

In the present dissertation we investigate structural and algorithmic aspects of the frequency assignment problem in mobile telephone networks. This problem is of particular interest for the graph theory because of its close relationship to graph coloring. The frequency assignment problem includes the characteristic features of T-coloring, list coloring, and set coloring, and belongs thereby to...

These questions concern apparent fundamental properties of living systems|properties which, furthermore, seem to be shared by many other complex adaptive systems, such as the global economy. It is especially hard to address these questions, largely because they concern the global emergent behavior of overwhelmingly complex systems. One way to pursue answers is with a certain sort of unrealistic...

Some active stars show a so-called flip-flop phenomenon in which the main spot activity periodically switches between two active longitudes that are 180◦ apart. In this paper we study the flip-flop phenomenon by converting results from dynamo calculations into long-term synthetic photometric observations, which are then compared to the real stellar observations. We show that similar activity pa...

BACKGROUND In the field of implementation research, there is an increased interest in use of theory when designing implementation research studies involving behavior change. In 2003, we initiated a series of five studies to establish a scientific rationale for interventions to translate research findings into clinical practice by exploring the performance of a number of different, commonly used...

Short term plasticity is a highly abundant form of rapid, activity-dependent modulation of synaptic efficacy. A shared set of mechanisms can cause both depression and enhancement of the postsynaptic response at different synapses, with important consequences for information processing. Mathematical models have been extensively used to study the mechanisms and roles of short term plasticity. Thi...

A Machine can only learn if it is biased in some way. Typically the bias is supplied by hand, for example through the choice of an appropriate set of features. However, if the learning machine is embedded within an environment of related tasks, then it can learn its own bias by learning suuciently many tasks from the environment 4, 6]. In this paper two models of bias learning (or equivalently,...

Data quality is crucial in all information systems. As a key step in obtaining clean data, record linkage or entity resolution (ER) groups database records by the underlying real world entities. In this paper we give practical motivating examples and review the available ER formal models. The formal model for matching and merging records determines not just the power and quality, but also the a...
