With reference to Lee’s treatment of quasi-probabilities, it is seen that the three phase space quasi-probabilities, known as the P-, Husimi and Wigner ones, plus other intermediate ones, generate a common, single Fisher thermodynamics, along the lines developed by Frieden et al. We explore some facets of such thermodynamics and encounter complementarity between two different kinds of Fisher in...

GENERIC is an abstract equation collecting themathematical structure guaranteeing agreement of its solutionswith results of certain basic experimental observations (conservations ofmass and energy and the approach to equilibrium atwhich the classical equilibrium thermodynamics applies). In the unifying framework provided byGENERICwe present recent developments and open challenges in the fundame...

Black hole solutions in pure quadratic theories of gravity are interesting since they allow the formulation of a set of scale-invariant thermodynamics laws. Recently, we have proven that static scale-invariant black holes have a well-defined entropy, which characterizes equivalent classes of solutions. In this paper, we generalize these results and explore the thermodynamics of rotating black h...

Darwinian dynamics is manifestly stochastic and nonconservative, but has a profound connection to conservative dynamics in physics. In this short presentation the main ideas and logical steps leading to thermodynamics from Darwinian dynamics are discussed in a quantitative manner. It suggests that the truth of the second law of thermodynamics lies in the fact that stochasticity or probability i...

In the present work the Mott effect for pions and kaons is described within a BethUhlenbeck approach on the basis of the PNJL model. The contribution of these degrees of freedom to the thermodynamics is encoded in the temperature dependence of their phase shifts. A comparison with results from Nf = 2 + 1 lattice QCD thermodynamics is performed.

Extended thermodynamics is based on a set of equations of balance which are supplemented by local and instantaneous constitutive equations so that the field equations are quasi-linear first order differential equations. If the constitutive functions are subject to the requirements of the entropy principle, one may write them in symmetric hyperbolic form by a suitable choice of fields. The kinet...

A brief review of the author’s works in the sphere of thermodynamic theory of aging is presented. Particular attention is given to justification of the methods of classical and near-equilibrium “dynamic” thermodynamics used to assess the direction and extent of ontogenesis. It is noted that discovery of the law of temporal hierarchies and the substance stability principle made it possible to us...

Several recent results in the field of quantum thermodynamics have been obtained using the tools of quantum information theory and resource theories. So far, the resource theories utilised to describe quantum thermodynamics have assumed the existence of an infinite thermal reservoir, by declaring that thermal states at some background temperature come for free. Here, we propose a resource theor...

We examine whether the cosmologies with varying speed of light (VSL) are compatible with the second law of thermodynamics. We find that the VSL cosmology with varying fundamental constant is severely constrained by the second law of thermodynamics, whereas the bimetric cosmological models are less constrained.

The common rules of classical nonequilibrium thermodynamics do not allow an Onsager coefficient like the viscosity to depend on the shear rate. Such a dependence is experimentally well documented, however. In this paper it is shown, using nonequilibrium thermodynamics alone, how it is possible that the effective viscosity coefficient of an isotropic colloidal system depends on both the shear ra...
