We describe a comparison of the scrub-wash method of Williamson and Kligman and a swab-wash method for the enumeration of cutaneous microflora. The swab-wash method provides a less traumatic alternative to the scrub-wash method and can be used to sample the cutaneous microflora of premature neonates.
a total of 300 one-day old male broilers (cobb 500) were randomly divided into four treatment groups. the groups comprised of 15 birds each, and were defined by diet and the birds in each group were fed 0 (control), 3, 5, or 7 kgy electron-beam irradiated diets. a total of 5 replicates were performed. the chemical composition of the diet was not affected by irradiation.irradiation doses of 5 an...
a total of 240, one-day-old quail chicks (coturnix coturnix japonica) were used to study the effects of artichoke leaf meal (alm) and vitamin e in diet on growth performance, ileal microbial populations and intestinal morphology in a 42-d trial. this experiment was performed as a completely randomized design with 4 replicates of 15 quails each, using a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement with diet and ...
AIMS Thermal inactivation of a mixture of five strains of Listeria monocytogenes, four strains of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and eight serotypes of Salmonella were compared with that of indigenous microflora in 75% lean ground beef. METHODS AND RESULTS Inoculated meat was packaged in bags that were completely immersed in a circulating water bath and held at 55, 57.5 and 60 degrees C for predete...
Thermophilic bacteria play an important role in aroma formation during pile-fermentation process of dark tea. With the aim to reveal impact thermophilic on volatile compounds tea, Bacillus licheniformis (thermophilic bacteria) were inoculated into sun-dried green tea for spontaneous fermentation. In this study, headspace solid phase microextraction combined gas chromatography mass spectrometry ...
A study was undertaken to determine typical concentrations of airborne bacteria and fungi (microflora) in Teaching Hospital environment in Benin City in the tropical rainforest environment of Nigeria. Aerial sampling was conducted at various hospital wards each day. The air samples were collected thrice daily. Concentrations of airborne microflora exceeded available local guidelines for indoor ...
Dysbiosis is a hallmark of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), but it is unclear which specific intestinal bacteria predispose to and which protect from IBD and how they are regulated. Peptidoglycan recognition proteins (Pglyrps) are antibacterial, participate in maintaining intestinal microflora, and modulate inflammatory responses. Mice deficient in any one of the four Pglyrp genes are more sen...
b a ckground: microbes particularly bacteria presenting in the gut of haematophagous insects may have an important role in the epidemiology of human infectious disease. m e t hods: the microbial flora of gut and surrounding environmental of a laboratory strain of phlebotomus papatasi , the main vector of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (zcl) in the old world, was investigated. biochemical reac...
The major purpose of this study was isolation, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility of thermophilic Campylobacter spp. from different sources including domestic animals (cow, sheep, horses), poultry, river water and sewage in Tonekabon. Campylobacter spp. was isolated using prêt-KB method and identified by phenotyping tests. Antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolates against differ...
SCHULZE, K. L. (Michigan State University, East Lansing). Continuous thermophilic composting. Appl. MIicrobiol. 10:108-122. 1962.Under complete mixing conditions, aerobic decomposition of mixed organic waste materials has been maintained continuously in the thermophilic phase in a 55-gal rotating drum. Temperatures ranged between 53 and 70 C. Raw material was added daily or every second day in ...
