In this paper, samples of titania-silica system were obtained by the sol-gel method as bulk materials, using titanium propoxide Ti(C3H7O)4 to introduce titania and two precursors SiO2: TEOS tetraethoxysilane Si(OC2H5)4 DDS dimethyldiethoxysilane (CH3)2(C2H5O)2Si. To enhance antibacterial properties, Ag was added gels selected compositions. The main aim performed studies find correlations betwee...

Graft polymerization of trimethoxysilyl-containing ammonium cations on negatively-charged titania nanosheets gives a photoluminescent viscoelastic nanocomposite. Proton conduction network comprised of adsorbed water molecules near the titania slabs leads to the multiple conductometric sensitivities to temperature, humidity, and photo-irradiation.

Toxicity of commercial nanoparticles of titania, silica, and zinc oxides is being investigated in this in vitro study. Particles of these compositions are found in many food items, and thus this study is directed toward particle behavior in simulated digestion media and their interaction with intestinal epithelial cell line C2BBe1, a clone of Caco-2 cells, originally isolated from a human colon...

Sol-gel is a promising deposition technique for the fabrication of silica-on-silicon photonic components. Silica-titania compositions provide large index differences, and thus strong mode confinement, and are suitable hosts for Er-doped optical amplifiers. We have developed channel waveguides based on phosphosilicate strip loads over high index titania-doped guiding layers. Here we demonstrate ...

Heterostructures of thin titania films on BiFeO3 substrates were grown by pulsed laser deposition. The heterostructures, when excited by visible light with energies between 2.53 and 2.70 eV, photochemically reduce aqueous silver cations from solution in patterns that mimic the structure of the ferroelectric domains in the substrate. Under the same conditions, titania by itself reduces insignifi...

Changes in the colloid-chemical and photocatalytic properties of titania nanoparticles by attrition milling in the presence of glycine (Gly) and subsequent heat treatment were examined. By milling at 1500 rpm for 6 h, the average particle size was decreased from 123 to 85 nm, with simultaneous decrease in the specific surface area from 35.1 to 23.5 m/g. Interfacial reactions between titania and...

Titania, single-doped and lanthanum-silver co-doped titania nanocomposite were coated on cellulosic and polyacrylonitrile fibers via sol–gel method. The prepared samples were evaluated using x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), photolumines...

We report the synthesis of self-organized titania nanotubes and nanocrystalline titania powders employing an alternative and novel approach. Integrating these nanostructures in a binder-free working electrode improved the capacitance up to 911 μF cm(-2), which is around one to two orders of magnitude higher than the conventional electric double layer capacitors.

A highly sensitive and stable tris(2,2′-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) (Ru(bpy)3) electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) sensor was developed based on carbon nanotube (CNT) dispersed in mesoporous composite films of sol–gel titania and perfluorosulfonated ionomer (Nafion). Single-wall (SWCNT) and multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) can be easily dispersed in the titania–Nafion composite solution. Th...

A titania photoredox catalysis protocol was developed for the homocoupling of C-centered radicals derived from carboxylic acids. Intermolecular reactions were generally efficient and selective, furnishing the desired dimers in good yields under mild neutral conditions. Selective cross-coupling with two acids proved unsuccessful. An intramolecular adaptation enabled macrocycles to be prepared, a...
