We analyze the observed shell gaps in N = Z nuclei determined from the binding energy differences. It is found that the shell gaps can be described by the combined contributions from the single-particle level spacing, the like-nucleon pairing, and the proton-neutron pairing interaction. A new Z' = 1 crystal structure of quinoxaline (or 1,4-diaza-naphthalene), C(8)H(6)N(2), with one-fifth the volume of the earlier known Z' = 5 structure was obtained by means of an in situ cryocrystallization technique.

For every $1leq s< n$, the $s^{th}$ derivative of a polynomial $P(z)$ of degree $n$ is a polynomial $P^{(s)}(z)$ whose degree is $(n-s)$. This paper presents a result which gives generalizations of some inequalities regarding the $s^{th}$ derivative of a polynomial having zeros outside a circle. Besides, our result gives interesting refinements of some well-known results.
