Probabilistic shaping (PS) is a promising technique to approach the Shannon limit. In this paper, we design practical coded modulation scheme based on PS improve capacity of coherent free-space optical (FSO) links with quadrature amplitude (QAM), where fading channel follows Gamma-Gamma distribution. The aim paper optimize probability mass function (PMF) QAM signal points achieve maximum capaci...

This paper studies the capacity of an indoor wireless system operating at 60 GHz using a physical channel model that incorporates multiple elements at both antenna terminals. The proposed channel model utilizes the geometric characteristics of the environment, the angle of arrival and angle of departure of each one of the propagation paths, the antenna elements and their spacing. The results sh...

A class of binary trees that grow in a random environment, where the state of the environment can change at every vertex of thetrees is studied. The trees considered are single-type and two-type binarytrees that grow in a two-state Markovian environment. For each kind oftree, the conditions on the environment process for extinction of the treeare determined, and the proble...

We study the Capacitated k-Median problem, for which all the known constant factor approximation algorithms violate either the number of facilities or the capacities. While the standard LP-relaxation can only be used for algorithms violating one of the two by a factor of at least two, Shi Li [SODA’15, SODA’16] gave algorithms violating the number of facilities by a factor of 1 + exploring prope...

We describe a dynamic programming algorithm for exact counting and exact uniform sampling of matrices with specified row and column sums. The algorithm runs in polynomial time when the column sums are bounded. Binary or non-negative integer matrices are handled. The method is distinguished by applicability to non-regular margins, tractability on large matrices, and the capacity for exact sampling.

A combination strategy of the inverse emulsion crosslinking approach and the colloidal assembly technique is first proposed to synthesize Fe3O4/histidine composite nanoclusters as new-type magnetic porous nanomaterials. The nanoclusters possess uniform morphology, high magnetic content and excellent protein adsorption capacity, exhibiting their great potential for bio-separation.

An optical ring network employing optical packet switching is investigated. An analytical approach allowing the computation of end-to-end cell loss ratio (CLR) is proposed. The CLR dependence on topological parameters (number of stations), network parameters (number of wavelengths), and node structure (buffer capacity) is computed assuming a uniform traffic load. A discrete event simulation con...

A tailored conversion-reaction anode material of 1-D MoS2 nanofibers with a vine-like shape composed of MoS2 nanoflakes delivers exceptionally high Na capacity and exhibits excellent rate properties. The improved cycleability of the MoS2 nanofiber electrode is achieved by a uniform TiO2 coating, which effectively minimized the sulfur dissolution.

The impact of distributed antennas using co-phasing transmission diversity on downlinkCDMAchannels is examined. An expression is derived that demonstrates that uniform downlink signal-to-interference ratio across users can be achieved by appropriately weighting the distribution of transmit powers across distributed antennas. The capacity of a downlink CDMA system employing distributed antennas w...
