For robotic systems to automatically plan and execute manipulation tasks involving intermittent contact, one must be able to accurately predict the motions of the manipulated objects. Not surprisingly, many of the important manipulation problems that could yield to closed-form analysis have been solved and studied thoroughly. Problems characterized by intermittent contact are one particularly i...

The purpose of this experiment was to study the role of binocular vision, including both stereopsis and binocular vergence, on the complex task of golf putting. The putting accuracy of 16, visuallynormal, inexperienced golfers (range 2366 years, mean=35 years) was assessed for small (3cm) and large (12cm) targets located at 3, 6, and 9 feet with their distance corrective lenses in place. Subjec...

In this paper a numerical algorithm, based on the Adomian decomposition method and a modified form of this method, is presented for solving a system of second-order boundary value problems associated with obstacle, unilateral, and contact problems. The scheme is shown to be highly accurate, and only a few terms are required to obtain accurate computable solutions.

Corneal astigmatism occurs when one corneal meridian has a different refractive power from the orthogonal meridian. In regular astigmatism, the two meridians are at 90o from each other, such as a sphere having a cylinder superimposed on its surface. In irregular astigmatism the two meridians are not at 90o from each other or the cornea curvature is not axially symmetric. Irregular astigmatism c...

A general Nitsche method, which encompasses symmetric and non-symmetric variants, is proposed for frictionless unilateral contact problems in elasticity. The optimal convergence of the method is established both for two and three-dimensional problems and Lagrange affine and quadratic finite element methods. Two and three-dimensional numerical experiments illustrate the theory.

BACKGROUND Biomechanical parameters of the hip have been suggested to have an important influence on the development of osteoarthritis. We aimed to find out whether higher stress is generated in a hip that subsequently results in earlier hip arthroplasty compared to the contralateral hip in the same subject. METHODS Standard anterior-posterior pelvic radiographs with no or subtle radiological...

An optimization problem for the unilateral contact between a pseudoplate and a rigid obstacle is considered. The variable thickness of the pseudoplate plays the role of a control variable. The cost functional is a regular functional only in the smooth case. The existence of an optimal thickness is verified. The penalized optimal control problem is considered in the general case.

In this work, we used reflexive Banach spaces to study the differential variational—hemivariational inequality problems with constraints. We established a sequence of perturbed variational–hemivariational constraints and penalty coefficients. Then, for each inequality, proved unique solvability convergence solutions problems. Following that, proposed mathematical model viscoelastic rod in unila...

In sports practice, motor tests are commonly used to predict success in specific segments of sprint running, as well post-injury rehabilitation. The purpose this analytical cross-sectional study was determine the prognostic validity unilateral horizontal cyclic jumps for a 20 m (UHCJ20m) test on running success. A sample 118 kinesiology students aged 20.5 ± 1.2 years with an average height 179....
