Across the developing world peste des petits ruminants virus places a huge disease burden on agriculture, primarily affecting the production of small ruminant. The disease is most effectively controlled by vaccinating sheep and goats with live attenuated vaccines that provide lifelong immunity. However, the current vaccines and serological tests are unable to enable Differentiation between natu...
Background and Aims: Infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV) infection causes a highly contagious respiratory disease in poultry leads to significant economic losses in the poultry industry. The genomic and antigenic characteristics between virulent and vaccine strains of ILTV are very similar. The ability of embryonated chicken neural stem (CNS) cell for differential diagnosis of ILTV strain...
Francisella tularensis LVS (Live Vaccine Strain) is an attenuated bacterium that has been used as a live vaccine. Patients immunized with this organism show a very long-term memory response (over 30 years post vaccination) evidenced by the presence of indicators of robust cell-mediated immunity. Because F. tularensis LVS is such a potent vaccine, we hypothesized that this organism would be an e...
UNLABELLED Studies evaluating the immunogenicity of two pediatric tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) vaccines have reported contradictory results. These vaccines are based on two different strains of the European TBEV subtype: FSME-Immun Junior is based on the Neudörfl (Nd) strain, whereas Encepur Children is based on the Karlsruhe (K23) strain. The antibody (Ab) response induced by these two...
Bordetella pertussis is the causative agent of pertussis. Here, we report the genome sequence of Bordetella pertussis strain CS, isolated from an infant patient in Beijing and widely used as a vaccine strain for production of an acellular pertussis vaccine in China.
Sequencing and subsequent analysis of a vaccine strain of foot-and-mouth disease virus serotype O is reported here. Genomic heterogeneity in the protective epitopes (VP1 protein) of the reported strain, compared to characterized strains and available sequences from Pakistan, warrants further studies to determine vaccine-induced immunity and disease protection.
To address potential concerns over the release of genetically engineered live bacterial vaccines, we constructed a recombination-deficient derivative of the Vibrio cholerae O1 vaccine strain CVD103 (CVD103RM). Oral immunization of adult volunteers with CVD103RM showed that the recA mutation significantly diminished colonization ability and immunogenicity of the vaccine strain.
Serum samples from children immunized with a meningococcal serogroup B vaccine demonstrated potent serum bactericidal antibody activity against the hypervirulent Neisseria meningitidis serogroup W strain circulating in England. The recent introduction of this vaccine into the United Kingdom national immunization program should also help protect infants against this endemic strain.
