This Article examines the right of doctors to object, because of conflicts with the doctor’s own morals, to treatment requested or refused by patients. Focusing mainly on end-of-life care, the author compares court opinions allowing or prohibiting doctors to withhold or withdraw lifesustaining treatment at the request of patients or their surrogates.

In the fourth paragraph, the last sentence " In a meta-analysis failure rates were almost fourfold higher with the 300 mg than the 600 mg daily dose (Zhang et al., 2015) " is an incorrect statement. The authors would like to withdraw this statement and apologize for the error.

Dislodgement and embolisation of the new generation of coronary stents before deployment are rare. If it is impossible to withdraw the embolised stent from the coronary artery, the stent may be crushed into the side wall of the coronary artery with a balloon over a wire passed alongside the embolised stent.

The decision to withdraw or withhold life supporting treatment in moribund patients is difficult under any circumstances. When the patient becomes incompetent to clarify their wishes regarding continued maintenance in long-term facilities, surrogates sometimes cannot agree, further clouding the issue. We examine a case where the State's interests come into play, forcing a controversial resolution.
