The present study was undertaken to test the efficacy of culture extracts of five Penicillium species viz. P. citrinum, P. digitatum, P. expansum, P. verrucosum and P. viridicatum against five different soilborne bacteria namely Salmonella gallinarum, Xenorhabdus luminescens, Xanthobacter autotrophicus, Acetobacter xylinum and Carnobacterium mobile. The species of Penicillum showed marked antib...

The oral toxicity of excretion products of several Photorhabdus and Xenorhabdus strains was tested on two thrips species: Frankliniella occidentalis and Thrips tabaci. Out of 46 Photorhabdus isolates and 6 Xenorhabdus isolates only 6 North American P. temperata isolates were toxic to the thrips species. After 7 days of drinking from P. temperata supernatant a mortality of 90% could be reached. ...

Bacteriocins are bacteriocidal toxins released by almost all bacteria. They are thought to have a narrow range of killing, but as bacteriocin-mediated interactions have been rarely studied at biologically relevant scales, whether this narrow range of action falls mostly within or mostly between coexisting species in natural communities is an open question with important ecological and evolution...

Xenorhahdus lurninescens is a luminous bacterium which is symbiotic with the entomopathogenic nematode Hererorhabdiris. The bacteria play an important role in pathogenesis of insect larvae. Once the nematode enters the larvae, Xennrhabdus spp are released from the gut of the nematode into the hemocoel of the insect. Here both the bacteria and the nematodes proliferate and kill the insect within...

xenorhabdus and photorhabdus are members of the family enterobacteriaceae, and are engaged in a mutualistic association with the entomopathogenic nematodes, steinernema and heterorhabditis, respectively. in the present study, the organic fraction of ethyl acetate bacterial crude extracts of the symbiotic bacteria, xenorhabdus stockiae and photorhabdus luminescens isolated from entomopathogenic ...
