451 Abstract: An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of an organic acid combination (Acid Lac Dry: lactic, fumaric, propionic, citric and formic acid) and/or zinc bacitracin on the body weight gain, feed efficiency, microflora and pH in the ileum content of broiler-type chicks. Ross PM3 broiler chicks were placed in an experimental design that consisted of four dietary treatments ...

More than 80% of the world’s production of zinc from its concentrate is obtained by the roastleach-electrowin hydrometallurgical process. In the roast-leach process, very pure zinc sulphate solution must be prepared for zinc electrowinning, therefore, the purification process is one of the most important unit processes in zinc hydrometallurgy. The conventional methods for the zinc solution puri...

In this study, adsorption of zinc onto the adsorbent (untreated rice husk and NaOH-treated rice husk) was examined. During the removal process, batch technique was used, and the effects of pH and contact time were investigated. Langmuir isotherm was applied in order to determine the efficiency of NaOH-treated rice husk used as an adsorbent. The zinc adsorption was fast, and equilibrium was atta...

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a class of zinc dependent endopeptidases which play a crucial role in a multitude of severe diseases such as cancer and osteoarthritis. We employed MMP-13 as the target enzyme for the structure-based design and synthesis of inhibitors able to recognize the catalytic zinc ion in addition to an allosteric binding site in order to increase the affinity of the l...

The hexagonal zinc oxide coated nickel (Ni/ZnO) nanostructure photocatalyst has successfully been prepared by the reduction of nickel chloride hexahydrate using hydrazine hydrate through the solvothermal process at 140 °C followed by surface modification of the product by the reflux method at 110 °C for 1 h. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern showed that the 'as prepared' sample consists of fa...

A 33% of elderly people in the world are at risk of zinc deficiency.1 Reports from different countries have shown prevalence of zinc deficiency among old people.2-4 Diet surveys indicate that zinc intake in the elderly are often inadequate. Several factors may contribute to poor zinc nutrition among the elderly. These include reduction in food intake due to reduced mobility or depression, and p...

The inhibitive effect of a few thiols were examined as corrosion inhibitors for the corrosion of zinc in 1N HCl and 1N H2SO4 by conventional weight loss and gasometric methods. Results obtained show that all the thiols exhibited high inhibition efficiencies. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increase in the inhibitor concentration. The adsorption of the inhibitors obeyed Temk...

Fluoride in spray pyrolysis precursor solutions for silicon-doped zinc oxide (SiZO) transparent conductor thin films significantly improves their electrical conductivity by enhancing silicon doping efficiency and not, as previously assumed, by fluoride doping. Containing only earth-abundant elements, SiZO thus prepared rivals the best solution-processed indium-doped ZnO in performance.

Metal complexes emitting thermally activated delayed fluorescence based on intra-ligand charge transfer and enhanced by metallization were synthesized. Organic light-emitting diodes using a thermally stable zinc complex processed by vacuum vapor deposition achieved an external quantum efficiency of nearly 20%.

A membrane-less organic-inorganic flow battery based on zinc and quinone species is proposed. By virtue of the slow dissolution rate of the deposited anode (<11.5 mg h-1 cm-2), the battery has a cell voltage of ca. 1.52 V with an average energy efficiency of ca. 73% at 30 mA cm-2 over 12 cycles.
