Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are the most common medications responsible for angioedema. Angioedema is a potentially life threatening conditions especially in geriatric age patients that they have take a several medications include ACE inhibitors and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. We present a case an ACE inhibitor induced angioedema that confused many clinical events.

Studies conducted over the last decade demonstrated variable therapeutic efficacy of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor on the progression of glomerular diseases, including IgA nephropathy. In this study, among patients with biopsy-proven IgA nephropathy, 53 patients in whom creatinine clearance had been monitored over 5 yr were recruited for study. These patients were classified int...

OBJECTIVE To quantify the cost-savings that could be realized by switching patients from two separate agents, ACE inhibitor/ARB and thiazide diuretic, to a fixed dose combination product. METHODS CompuScript and Longitudinal Rx (LRx) Insights data from IMS Health Canada for Oct 2006-Sept 2007 was used. From the LRx data, the proportion of patients taking both ACE inhibitors/ARBs and thiazide ...

A novel inhibitor of angiotensin I converting enzyme (ACE), named K-4, was isolated from the culture broth of Actinomadura spiculosospora nov. sp. K-4. The K-4 was an oligopeptide containing L-phenylalanine with (R)-1-amino-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethylphosphonic acid as the C-terminal residue. The compound proved to be a specific and reversible inhibitor of ACE with the inhibition constant (Ki) of ...

Telmisartan is indicated for the prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients, based on comparable efficacy to the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, ramipril, in the ONgoing Telmisartan Alone and in combination with Ramipril Global Endpoint Trial (ONTARGET(®)) trial. However, tolerability must be considered when selecting treatments. This analysis compared the tolerabi...

S21402 is a vasopeptidase inhibitor that simultaneously inhibits neutral endopeptidase (NEP) and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). This study determined whether chronic treatment with S21402 produced different effects on sodium and water excretion, hormonal parameters, and cardiovascular structure compared with selective inhibition of ACE and NEP in a rat model of myocardial infarction-induc...

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors have been shown to prolong survival and to decrease infarct size in patients after acute coronary syndromes.1–3 Evidence now exists that ACE inhibitors are effective in decreasing myocardial injury during coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) and can reduce the incidence of ischemic events in the years after surgery.4,5 It has been suggested ...

To discover the underlying mechanisms involved in the beneficial long-term effects of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, we investigated the systemic and peripheral effects of short- and long-term ACE inhibition in patients with chronic heart failure. After assessing the short-term effects and dose titration with cilazapril, a new long-acting ACE inhibitor, 21 patients were randomi...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE High levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) are associated with an increased risk of future cardiovascular events in ischemic stroke. It has been hypothesized that the benefit of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors in patients at high vascular risk may also result from their anti-inflammatory action. Data evaluating this hypothesis are limited in ischemic stroke. ...

The effect of dexamethasone on angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) in primary culture of adult cardiac fibroblasts was analyzed in this study. ACE is central to cardiac remodeling in conditions such as myocardial infarction (MI). Some studies indicate that glucocorticoids are often increased post-MI, whereas other studies suggest that glucocorticoids stimulate ACE activity in various cell types...
