Background and Purpose: Mycotoxins are secondary fungal metabolites with a very high diversity that are produced by some species of Aspergillus which frequently leads to contaminate food and agricultural products. Recently, elimination of aflatoxin contamination in food and feed has been considered by scientists worldwide. Although, the antibacterial and antifungal effects of vitamins as natura...
Moldy feed toxicosis was recognized as a serious livestock problem in the 1950's but it was only in 1960 during the investigations in the United Kingdom of moldy feed toxicosis which was called Turkey “x” disease, that A. flavus and A. parasiticus were identified as the organisms responsible for the elaboration of the toxin in the feed. The earliest symptoms of the disease are lithargy and musc...
AND SUMMARY Low incidence and levels of aflatoxin were identified in corn of all grades grown in the Midwest in 1964, 1965, and 1967. Later surveys indicate that corn grown in southern regions is subject to invasion by Aspergillus flavus and subsequent aflatoxin formation. This mycotoxin is formed either in the field or in storage. In the field, such factors as insect damage and weather conditi...
Aflatoxin M1 is the foremost metabolite of aflatoxin B1 in humans and animals, which may be present in animal products from animals fed with aflatoxin B1 contaminated feed. In this study a high performance liquid chromatography method for determination of aflatoxin M1 in eggs was described. The egg samples were diluted with warmed water and the toxin was immunoextracted followed by fluorescence...
Japanese horse chestnut seed extract (HCSE) dose-dependently inhibited the autooxidation of linoleic acid (IC(50): 0.2 mg/ml), and the inhibition was almost complete at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. The HCSE scavenged DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radicals and superoxide anions with EC(50)s of 0.65 and 0.21 mg/ml, respectively. However, it had no effect on hydrogen peroxide. The HCSE inhib...
aflatoxin b1 (afb1) is a secondary metabolite produced by some aspergillus species, which haveharmful impacts on human health such as carcinogenicity, teratogenicity, acute and chronic toxicity.in this study, the occurrence of afb1 in pistachio nuts during various preparing processes wasinvestigated in two pistachio farms from qazvin province, iran, from september to november 2012.high performa...
background: aflatoxins cause health hazards to human and animals and has also economical problems. therefore, the detoxification effect of citric acid was investigated in rice as the main food of iranian people. methods: initially 275 samples of rice were examined for aflatoxins by hplc. the aflatoxins contaminated samples were later treated by aqueous citric acid and detoxification of aflatox...
Evaluation of kinetic model aflatoxin B1 adsorption by Saccharomyces cerevisiae treated with acid and ultrasonic in Sangak bread dough
West African Aspergillus flavus S isolates differed from North American isolates. Both produced aflatoxin B1. However, 40 and 100% of West African isolates also produced aflatoxin G1 in NH4 medium and urea medium, respectively. No North American S strain isolate produced aflatoxin G1. This geographical and physiological divergence may influence aflatoxin management.
