The association of Vibrio cholerae with zooplankton has been suggested as an important factor in transmission of human epidemic cholera, and the ability to colonize zooplankton surfaces may play a role in the temporal variation and predominance of the two different serogroups (V. cholerae O1 El Tor and O139) in the aquatic environment. To date, interactions between specific serogroups and speci...

In this study, we document the first recorded range extension of genus Synaphobranchus from East Mariana Basin in Western Pacific Ocean. We sequenced complete mitochondrial (mt) genome two deep-sea eels (Synaphobranchus brevidorsalis and S. affinis) collected The mt genomes affinis were 16,686 bp 16,677 length, respectively, consisted 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA rRNA genes. Molecular phylo...

The geographical distribution of chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) variation in 39 populations of two hybridizing Mexican red oaks, Quercus affinis and Q. laurina, was investigated using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Six haplotypes were identified. Of these, two (H1 and H4), separated by four mutations, had high frequencies (58 and 23% of the individuals, ...

Somatic growth and reproduction were examined in individual laboratory-grown female Gambusia affinis fed with high (H), medium (M) and low (L) ration levels from birth to the first-time spawning. Results showed that the body length and weight, condition factor (CF), wet weight gain (WG(w)), specific growth rate in wet weight (SGR(w)) and ration levels in terms of energy (RL(e)) decreased signif...

We isolated nine microsatellite loci from the Neotropical understorey tree Miconia affinis (Melastomataceae) and optimized them for research on gene flow and genetic structure. Loci screened in 43 individuals from a 2.26-km(2) region were shown to be unlinked and polymorphic, with 5 to 14 alleles per locus and observed heterozygosity ranging from 0.394 to 0.810.

Abstract Three cumacean species, Eudorella nana Sars, 1879, Leucon affinis Fage, 1951, siphonatus Calman, 1905, were recorded for the first time and one rare amphipod presence, Stenothoe bosphorana Sowinsky, 1898, was confirmed in Adriatic basin.

This paper describes three species of the genus Tripyla from New Zealand and provides a key to species based on the morphology of females. Tripyla daviesae sp. nov. is characterized by its short body length (L = 1143-1363 μm), relatively anterior vulva (V = 50-51%), and the length of the gubernaculum (13-17 μm). Tripyla tirau sp. nov. is characterized by its relatively posterior vulva (V = 55.5...

Five insect biological control agents that attack flower heads of spotted knapweed, Centaurea stoebe L. subsp. micranthos (Gugler) Hayek, became established in western Montana between 1973 and 1992. In a controlled field experiment in 2006, seed-head insects reduced spotted knapweed seed production per seed head by 84.4%. The seed production at two sites in western Montana where these biologica...

Antibiotics are a relatively common disturbance to the normal microbiota of humans and agricultural animals, sometimes resulting in severe side effects such as antibiotic-associated enterocolitis. Gambusia affinis was used as a vertebrate model for effects of a broad-spectrum antibiotic, rifampicin, on the skin and gut mucosal microbiomes. The fish were exposed to the antibiotic in the water co...

One male specimen of the species Metapenaeus stebbingi Nobili, 1904 was first recorded in November 2021 from Iraqi territorial waters, Northwest Arabian Gulf. Therefore, investigated shrimp nominally corresponds to original description M. stebbing through main diagnostic features. It must be adopted spread and expansion species, a new record area, distinctive addition commercial within marine w...
