ROPIVACAINE (1-propyl-29,69-pipecoloxylidide) is a long-acting aminoamide local anesthetic that has been introduced into clinical use in the last few years, largely as a replacement for bupivacaine. Bupivacaine has been reported to possess a significant antibacterial effect. Because data regarding ropivacaine are not available, we compared the antibacterial effects of clinically appropriate con...

The emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria is a global threat for human society. There exist recorded data that silver was used as an antimicrobial agent by the ancient Greeks and Romans during the 8th century. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are of potential interest because of their effective antibacterial and antiviral activities, with minimal cytotoxic effects on the cells. However, very fe...

The antibacterial properties of tuftsin and its 11 analogs on 20 bacterial strains were investigated. Tuftsin showed a definite antibacterial effect at a minimal effective concentration of 62.5 micrograms/ml. All analogs were either less effective or lacked any activity. The bacteria used included some highly pathogenic organisms.

In order to check the structure-activity relationship and find more potent derivatives of the natural products 1 and 2 obtained from sponge Ircinia spinosula, a series of oxidation, hydrogenation, acetylation and methylation derivatives was prepared. All compounds (natural and synthetic ones) were screened for their cytotoxic and antibacterial activities. The biological studies showed a wide ra...
