The lytic bacteriophage YS35, which is capable of lysing multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, was isolated from a sewage sample. Here, we describe the complete genome sequence of this myoviral bacteriophage, which contains 93,296 bp of double-stranded DNA and has a 49.4% G+C content.

Bacteriophage St11Ph5 was isolated from a sewage sample on a particularly phage-resistant uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) up11 host strain. It appeared to be closely related to bacteriophage G7C, isolated from horse feces; however, it carries a highly divergent host recognition module.

Only two of the early genes of bacteriophage T7 were found to play a significant role in exclusion of superinfecting bacteriophage T3 particles; genes 0.3 and 1. Protein synthesis by the preinfecting phage particle was not required for efficient exclusion. These findings are discussed with regard to the known functions of these genes during T7 development.

A virulent bacteriophage (Ec-ZZ2) that infects Enterococcus faecium was isolated from sewage. The bacteriophage belongs to the family Siphoviridae and has a linear double-stranded DNA genome, with a length of 41,170 bp and a 34.59% G+C content, which is highly similar to Enterococcus phage IME-EF4.

Bacteriophage (phage) vB_AbaM_ME3 was previously isolated from wastewater effluent using the propagating host Acinetobacter baumannii DSM 30007. The full genome was sequenced, revealing it to be the largest Acinetobacter bacteriophage sequenced to date with a size of 234,900 bp and containing 326 open reading frames (ORFs).

Several approaches for the inactivation of bacteriophage lambda, including UV germicidal irradiation (UVGI) and the chemical agents Virkon-S, Chloros, Decon-90, and sodium hydroxide (NaOH), were compared. Virkon, NaOH, and UVGI caused a ≥7-log(10) reduction in phage titers. This study successfully describes several methods with potential for bacteriophage inactivation in industrial settings.

A marine bacteriophage infections model with stage structure is studied. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the extinction and permanence of the system are obtained, which enrich and improve the corresponding results given by S.A. Gourley and Y. Kuang [A delay reaction–diffusion model of the spread of bacteriophage infection, SIAM J. Appl. Math. 65 (2005) 550–566]. c © 2006 Elsevier Ltd. A...

Plasmids harboring the cos sequences of bacteriophage D3 can be transferred, by bacteriophage D3, into Pseudomonas aeruginosa by a mechanism which is insensitive to DNase. Transducing activity was separated from the plaque-forming particles by CsCl equilibrium gradient centrifugation. Restriction endonuclease digestion patterns suggest that the transducing particles contain plasmid concatemers.

In this study, we sequenced the complete genome of the Clostridium difficile type strain DSM 1296(T). A combination of single-molecule real-time (SMRT) and Illumina sequencing technology revealed the presence of one chromosome and two extrachromosomal elements, the bacteriophage phiCDIF1296T and a putative plasmid-like structure harboring genes of another bacteriophage.

Bacillus thuringiensis is an insect pathogen which has been widely used for biocontrol. During B. thuringiensis fermentation, lysogenic bacteriophages cause severe losses of yield. Here, we announce the complete genome sequence of a bacteriophage, BMBtp2, which is induced from B. thuringiensis strain YBT-1765, which may be helpful to clarify the mechanism involved in bacteriophage contamination.
