This paper presents a branch–and–price algorithm for the Capacitated Hub Location Problem with Single Assignment, in which Lagrangean relaxation is used to obtain tight lower bounds of the Restricted Master Problem (RPM). It is shown how to solve the pricing problem for finding new columns to be added to the RMP, or for proving that the lower bound of the current RMP is valid. Also, a lower bou...

In this paper the problem of scheduling train crew is considered. We discuss a general framework of which the method for solving the train crew scheduling problem is a special case. In particular, our method is a heuristic branch-and-price algorithm suitable for large scale crew scheduling problems. This algorithm is applied to a real life train guard scheduling problem which is provided to us ...

This article introduces a new exact algorithm for the capacitated vehicle routing problem with stochastic demands (CVRPSD). The CVRPSD can be formulated as a set partitioning problem and it is shown that the associated column generation subproblem can be solved using a dynamic programming scheme. Computational experiments show promising results. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We study the vehicle routing problem with roaming delivery locations in which the goal is to find a least-cost set of delivery routes for a fleet of capacitated vehicles and in which a customer order has to be delivered to the trunk of the customer’s car during the time that the car is parked at one of the locations in the (known) customer’s travel itinerary. We formulate the problem as a set-p...

In a combinatorial auction, multiple items are for sale simultaneously to a set of buyers. These buyers are allowed to place bids on subsets of the available items. A special kind of combinatorial auction is the so-called matrix bid auction, which was developed by Day (2004). The matrix bid auction imposes restrictions on what a bidder can bid for a subsets of the items. This paper focusses on ...

Motivated by a situation faced by infrastructure service providers operating in urban areas with accessibility restrictions, we study the truck and trailer routing problem with time windows (TTRPTW). In this problem the vehicle fleet consists of trucks and trailers which may be decoupled. A set of customers has to be served and some of the customers can only be accessed by the truck without the...

The Team Orienteering Problem is a routing problem on a graph with durations associated to the arcs and profits assigned to visiting the vertices. A fixed number of identical vehicles, with a limited total duration for their routes, is given. The total profit gathered by all routes is to be maximized. We devise an extended formulation where edges are indexed by the time they are placed in the r...
