Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) of the breast represent extremely rare lesions. Due to the scarcity of reports, their natural history, recurrence, and metastatic potential remain poorly defined. We report on a case of a primary breast IMT in a postmenopausal female patient treated successfully with breast conserving surgery and review the literature pertaining to this rare entity.

Many differences exist in clinico-pathological characteristics of breast cancer patients between China and Western countries. This study aimed to analyze clinico-pathological characteristics of breast cancer from central China. METHODS Clinico- pathological information on breast cancer from three hospitals in ce...
BACKGROUND To report toxicity and early clinical outcomes of hypofractionated simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) approach with Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) as adjuvant treatment after breast-conserving surgery. METHODS Patients presenting early-stage breast cancer were enrolled in a phase II trial. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA age > 18 years old, invasive cancer or ductal carcinoma in s...
PURPOSE Results of the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG) Z0011 trial indicated that complete axillary node dissection (ALND) may not be warranted in some breast cancer patients with low tumor burden who are undergoing breast-conserving surgery following whole-breast irradiation. However, this study did not address patients undergoing mastectomy or those undergoing breast-cons...
With the implementation of early screening more women are diagnosed with early stage breast cancer; the curative therapy remains however an important challenge. For years, radical mastectomy was the only treatment option for breast cancer. The concept of conservative treatment was initially developed in Europe during the years 1960-1970. It consisted of breast conserving surgery followed by rad...
PURPOSE To compare in a prospective trial the acute skin reaction and late cosmetic effects of normal fractionation versus hypofractionation radiotherapy after breast conserving surgery. PATIENTS AND METHODS Thirty patients with T 1-2N0M0 breast cancer who underwent breast conserving surgery (BCS) were included in the study. Half of the patients received whole breast irradiation, consisting o...
Breast conservation surgery is available to the vast majority of women with breast cancer. The combination of neoadjuvant therapies and oncoplastic surgical techniques allows even large tumours to be managed with a breast-conserving approach. The relationship between breast size and the volume of tissue to be excised determines the need for volume displacement or replacement. Such an approach c...
