We describe a rare case of extralobar pulmonary sequestration with hemorrhagic infarction in a 10-year-old boy who presented with acute abdominal pain and fever. In our case, internal branching linear architecture, lack of enhancement in the peripheral portion of the lesion with internal hemorrhage, and vascular pedicle were well visualized on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging that led to...

Intralobar pulmonary sequestration is a rare congenital abnormality of the lower respiratory tract which becomes symptomatic early in life. Clinical presentation may vary from asymptomatic state with incidental diagnosis while imaging to severe catastrophic hemoptysis. Here we report a case of intralobar pulmonary sequestration in a male of 36 years who continued to have hemoptysis for fourteen...

Pulmonary sequestration is an unusual malformation consisting of isolated nonfunctioning lung segments lacking communication with functional tracheobronchial trees. Systemic blood supply is commonly from the thoracic aorta, but arteries occasionally arise from other sites. We report a rare form of pulmonary sequestration with arterial supply from the right coronary artery.

Infusion of complement fragments induces rapid sequestration of neutrophils within the pulmonary capillaries. This study examined the contributions of the bone marrow (BM) and the liver to the accumulation of neutrophils within the lungs. Complement fragments induced the release of neutrophils from the BM within 7 minutes of infusion, and these neutrophils sequestered in the lungs immediately u...

Systemic arterial supply from the descending thoracic aorta to the basal segment of the left lower lobe without a pulmonary artery supply is a rare congenital anomaly within the spectrum of pulmonary sequestration cases. We encountered four consecutive cases, which were treated successfully by three basalectomies and one lower lobectomy to preserve lung function.

The effect of leukocyte antibodies detected under different conditions on the fate in vivo of granulocytes was studied using 111-indium-labeled granulocytes. Sera from patients were tested by granulocyte agglutination (GA), granulocytotoxicity (GC), granulocyte immunofluorescence (GIF), lymphocytotoxicity (LC), and antibody-dependent lymphocyte-mediated granulocytotoxicity. Granulocytes from do...

The pulmonary sequestration spectrum and related congenital lung anomalies present an extremely complex and varied group of bronchopulmonary-vascular malformations. Previous attempts at nomenclature and classification have proved inadequate. In this article we present a classification of the newly named pulmonary malinosculation spectrum, which includes all congenital lung anomalies where there...
