Available reports have confirmed a link between bacterial infection and the progression of different types cancers, including colon, lungs, prostate cancer. Here we report Chlamydia pneumonia proteins targeting in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) using in-silico approaches their possible role lung cancer etiology. We predicted 48 that target human ER, which may be associated with protein folding prot...

AIMS To develop a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the simultaneous detection of Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Chlamydia psittaci in respiratory samples. METHODS Oligonucleotide primers for the amplification of the DNA of these three organisms were optimised for use in combination in the same reaction. PCR products were detected by hybridisation with pooled int...

The pulmonary histopathologic features in a sporadic case of Legionnaires' disease are shown. The changes include acute bronchitis with focal ulceration and diffuse acute interstitial pneumonitis. These changes are not those seen with typical bacterial pneumonia but are similar to changes seen when viruses, rickettsiae, chlamydiae, or Mycoplasma pneumoniae organisms are the infecting agents.

The incidence of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in the elderly is higher compared to younger populations. In addition, pneumonia in the elderly is a life-threatening problem. As our demographics have changed, clinicians have developed a heightened interest in managing pneumonia in the elderly. OBJECTIVE Chlamydia trachomatis infections are common in pregnant adolescents. Previous studies have shown that treating pregnant women of all ages with erythromycin prevents transmission of this infection to their infants. However, there are no published studies on the efficacy of aggressive screening and treatment of C. trachomatis in pregnant adolescents. This study was undertaken to determi...

This study was done to determine the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis infection in women with spontaneous abortion. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on women with spontaneous abortions who were referred to...

In a recent article, Bas and collaborators compared different serological methods to detect chlamydial antibodies in patients with Chlamydia trachomatis infections and healthy blood donors (1). Using the Labsystems enzyme immunoassay (EIA) for C. pneumoniae, no cross-reaction between C. trachomatis and C. pneumoniae was found. However, Gnarpe and collaborators recently showed cross-reactions be...

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is the leading infectious disease requiring hospitalization in the western world. Genetic variability affecting the host response to infection may play a role in susceptibility and outcome in patients with CAP. Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) and l-ficolin (l-FCN) are two important activators of the complement system and they can enhance phagocytosis by opsonizat...

BACKGROUND Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) was first recognized in the Netherlands in 2001 from nasopharyngeal aspirate samples and was associated with respiratory tract illness in the pediatric population. This was the first report of metapneumovirus infections in community-acquired pneumonia in Taiwan. METHODS A total of 116 nasopharyngeal aspirate samples from patients with community-acquired...
