Multiplex PCR was used to investigate the presence of enterotoxins genes (sea, seb, sec, sed and see) and femA gene (specific for Staphylococcus aureus) in coagulase-positive staphylococci (CPS) isolated from cheese and meat products. From 102 CPS isolates, 91 were positive for femA, 10 for sea, 12 for sed and four for see.

4H-1,4-Benzothiazines and its derivatives are potential pharmacologically and industrially useful agents. They were prepared by condensation followed by oxidative cyclization of 2-amino-4,6-dimethylbenzenethiol with varied βdiketones/β-ketoesters in dimethyl sulfoxide. On refluxing with H2O2 in glacial acetic acid, the substituted 4H-1,4Benzothiazines yielded 4H-1,4-Benzothiazine-1,1-dioxides (...

The fate of hemolytic staphylococci injected intravenousiy into albino mice was followed by determining quantitatively the numbers of living organisms present in the various tissues at different intervals of time after infection. Irrespective of the strain of staphylococcus used, most of the organisms disappeared rapidly from the blood, liver, spleen, and kidneys. This was true even when the in...

A serious complication seen in critically ill patients is the solidification of enteral nutrition causing gastrointestinal obstruction. It has been suggested that enteral nutrition enriched with insoluble fibers may increase the risk of this complication. Therefore, we investigate the effect of soluble and insoluble dietary fibers on the coagulation of a casein-based enteral nutrition in an art...

Background: Blood stream infection is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with cancer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of aerobic and anaerobic-bacteremia in hospital inpatients with cancer and to determine the antibiotic resistance profile in isolated organisms in Kerman, southeast Iran. Methods: Total of 240 blood cultures from 136 patients w...

The genus Staphylococcus is composed of Gram-positive bacteria with diameters of 0.5-1.5 μm, characterized by individual cocci that divide in more than one plane to form grape-like clusters [1]. These bacteria are non-motile, nonspore forming facultative anaerobes, featuring a complex nutritional requirement for growth [2-4], a low G+C content of DNA (in the range of 30-40 mol%) [5], a toleranc...

Staphylococci are known as clustering Gram-positive cocci, nonmotile, non-spore forming facultatively anaerobic that classified in two main groups, coagulase-positive and coagulase-negative. Staphylococcus epidermidis with the highest percentage has the prominent role among coagulase-negative Staphylococci that is the most important reason of clinical infections. Due to various virulence factor...

We describe a simple test for direct or indrect detection of antineutrophil antibodies. Sensitized leukocytes adherent to glass slides and fixed with paraformaldehyde can be stored in buffer for at least 3 wk. Killed Cowan I staphylococci, containing protein A, bind to sensitized but not control cells, and binding is ascertainable by light microscopy. Indirect tests were positive for 39/41 pati...

BACKGROUND Neutropenic patients are vulnerable to a wide spectrum of infectious agents. The aim of this study was to determine the current frequency of bacterial infections in patients with nosocomial fever and neutropenia. METHODS In a retrospective study, the neutropenic patients' specimens with nosocomial fever were cultured on blood and MacConkey agar plates and evaluated at microbiology ...
