We report four cases of burn injuries inflicted by hot coolant after the explosion of the heating unit in four motor-vehicles of the same make and version, in similar circumstances while the patients were driving their cars. Burns of this type can cause considerable morbidity with an accompanying high risk of a traffic accident.

Tehran Research Reactor (T.R.R.) is a pool-type, 5 MW thermal research reactor. One probable event is that if some external objects or debris fall down into the reactor core and cause obstruction of the coolant flow through one of the fuel assemblies, decreasing the surface flow area, ceases the coolant flow, and also raises the fuel and sheaths tempe...

A detailed safety analysis was performed for the inertial confinement fusion reactor OSIRIS. The radioactivity induced in the carbon fabric chamber concrete shield and Flibe breeder is very low allowing for their disposal at the end of the reactor life as Class A low level waste (LLW). The biological dose rate after shutdown behind the reactor biological shield shield is very low (0.11 μ rem/hr...

Currently, more than 16% of world energy demand is fulfilled by nuclear power plants (NPPs). This amounts to 2800 TWh energy annually generated by more than 441 NPPs operating in 31 countries worldwide [17]. Amongst these NPPs, the LWRs contribute to more than 85% of total energy produced by all nuclear reactors [20]. With the advantage of being proven technology along with extensive operationa...

During the past ten years, the ARIES Team has studied a variety of tokamak power plants with different degrees of extrapolation in plasma physics and technology from present database. Continuation of research has allowed us to apply lessons learned from each ARIES design to the next. The results of ARIES tokamak power plant studies provide a large body of data that highlight the contribution, t...

With the rapid improvement of computer performance, tremendous heat generation in the chip becomes a major serious concern for thermal management. Meanwhile, CPU chips are becoming smaller and smaller with almost no room for the heat to escape. The total power-dissipation levels now reside on the order of 100 W with a peak power density of 400–500 W/cm2, and are still steadily climbing. As a re...
