We study the dynamics of denaturation bubbles in double-stranded DNA on the basis of the Poland-Scheraga model. We show that long time distributions for the survival of DNA bubbles and the size autocorrelation function can be derived from an asymptotic weak noise approach. In particular, below the melting temperature the bubble closure corresponds to a noisy finite time singularity. We demonstr...

Local density approximation plus on-site Coulomb interaction U band structure calculations reveal that SrRuO3 exhibits a half-metallic ground state with an integer spin moment of 2.0 microB/SrRuO3. An associated tilting 4dt2g orbital ordering on a Ru sublattice is observed under the on-site Coulomb interaction U in the presence of lattice distortion. This finding unravels the on-site Coulomb co...

Minicharged particles arise in many extensions of the standard model. Their contribution to the vacuum polarization modifies Coulomb's law via the Uehling potential. In this Letter, we argue that tests for electromagnetic fifth forces can therefore be a sensitive probe of minicharged particles. In the low mass range < or approximately equal to microeV existing constraints from Cavendish type ex...

We calculate the Coulomb effects on the cross section for e + e − → W + W − taking into account the instability of the W bosons. We carefully explain the consequences of instability throughout the energy range which will be accessible at LEP2. We present a formula which allows these effects to be easily implemented.

Electron-pair excitations in the molecular hydrogen continuum are described by quantizing rotations of the momentum plane of the electron pair about the pair's relative momentum. A heliumlike description of the molecular photodouble ionization is thus extended to higher angular momenta of the electron pair. A simple three-state superposition is found to account surprisingly well for recent obse...

We use the effective action describing long-range QCD, which predicts that QCD behaves as a dual superconductor, to derive the interaction energy between two heavy quarks as a function of separation. The dual-superconductor field equations are solved in an approximation in which the boundary between the superconducting vacuum and the region of normal vacuum surrounding the quarks is sharp. Furt...

We calculate threeand four-point functions in super Liouville theory coupled to super Coulomb gas on world sheets with spherical topology. We first integrate over the zero mode and assume that a parameter takes an integer value. After calculating the amplitudes, we formally continue the parameter to an arbitrary real number. Remarkably the result is completely parallel to the bosonic case, the ...

I demonstrate how confinement in Coulomb-gauge QCD makes quark-quark states of the color anti-triplet (diquarks) move out of the physical spectrum. Mesons as color singlet quark-antiquark states, on the other hand have finite masses and for highly excited states in the meson spectra effective restoration of chiral symmetry can be observed. In Coulomb-gauge QCD the 00-component of the gluon prop...

Coulomb final-state interaction of positive charged kaons in heavy ion reactions and its impact on the kaon transverse flow and the kaon azimuthal distribution are investigated within the framework of QMD ( Quantum Molecular Dynamics ) model. The Coulomb interaction is found to tend to draw the flow of kaons away from that of nucleons and lead to a more isotropic azimuthal distribution of kaons...
