Jones-Mote reactions are delayed, erythematous, and mildly indurated cutaneous reactions originally described in humans sensitized by skin injection of heterologous proteins. Similar reactions in guinea pigs contain many basophils and are called cutaneous basophil hypersensitivity. In contrast, guinea pigs immunized with mycobacterial adjuvants have classical tuberculin-type delayed hypersensit...
‘Drug Induced Hypersensitivity Syndrome’ (DiHS) or Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms’ (DRESS) syndrome is a life threatening, delayed type drug hypersensitivity reaction. This characterized by fever, skin rash, lymphadenopathy, hematological abnormalities visceral involvement liver the most frequently involved organ. Liver mostly presented as acute anicteric hepatitis elevated enzyme...
The technique of macrophage migration, as a specific measure of delayed or cellular hypersensitivity, was applied to the guinea-pig model of experimental allergic neuritis (EAN) to explore the relevance of hypersensitivity to peripheral and central nervous system antigens. Results indicate that in EAN there is hypersensitivity to central as well as peripheral nervous tissue antigens. In contras...
Background There have been no standard methods to predict the hypersensitivity to cephalosporin. The relationship between cephalosporin hypersensitivity and history of beta-lactam hypersensitivity is not clear. This retrospective study is to evaluate the reliability of routine prophylactic skin test with cefazolin in general population and the relationship between results of cefazolin skin test...
The in vivo functions of interleukin-3 (IL-3) were investigated by generating IL-3-deficient mice. Although hematopoiesis was unimpaired in homozygous mutant animals, contact hypersensitivity reactions were compromised. IL-3 was required for efficient priming of hapten-specific contact hypersensitivity responses, but was dispensable for T-cell-dependent sensitization to tumor cells. These findi...
The early (six hours) reaction to tuberculin skin testing was studied in 33 Indonesian hospital workers with frequent occupational exposure to M tuberculosis and compared with responses maximal at the usual time (48 hours) in factory workers, from the same locality but with only occasional occupational exposure, to determine the nature of the early reaction. The early reaction had the same gene...
Positive Montenegro's skin test is a delayed type hypersensitivity reaction widely used as indicative of previous infection with Leishmania in both humans and dogs. Montenegro's antigen consists of a crude Leishmania antigen solution, usually containing thimerosal as preserving agent. In this work it is shown that a large proportion of dogs (11 out of 56) examined in an endemic area of leishman...
Skin testing with lepromin, which produces a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction, has been used in the classification of leprosy, and a good correlation has been found between immunological status and the reaction to lepromin. In addition, the prognostic value of the lepromin test has been demonstrated. More recently, skin testing with two soluble antigens of Mycobacterium leprae showed no d...
We present a 54-year-old woman who suffered eczematous eruptions on her face after the administration of lidocaine and mepivacaine for dental surgeries. Patch tests showed delayed-type-hypersensitivity to the amide local anesthetics lidocaine and mepivacaine with cross reaction to other amynoacylderivatives (prilocaine, bupivacaine) but not articaine.
