Energy usage, dependability of energy supply and climate change are important topics in society. Today, a number of trends can be recognized in the electricity consumption and generation. On the one hand, the electricity consumption increases and becomes more žuctuating. is is caused by increasing economic activity and prosperity, but also by a shiŸ towards more electricity supplied devices, fo...

The IT equipment comprising the Internet in the USA uses about $6 billion of electricity every year. Much of this electricity use is wasted on idle, but fully powered-up, desktop PCs and network links. We show how to recover a large portion of the wasted electricity with improved power management methods that are focused on network issues.

Renewable energy provides twenty percent of electricity generation worldwide. Hydroelectric power is the cheapest way to generate electricity today. It is a renewable source of energy and provides almost one-fifth of electricity in the world. Also, it generates electricity using a renewable natural resource and accounting for six percent of worldwide energy supply or about fifteen percent of th...

tinuously increasing and now accounts for about one third of the total electrical energy produced in Europe. Many individuals would be interested in saving energy (and thus also carbon dioxide as well as money), but they lack information on their consumption. Indeed, feedback on household electricity usage is typically only provided by monthly (or even annual) utility bills and therefore remain...

a r t i c l e i n f o This paper studies the dynamic behavior of electricity consumption with special emphasis on their convergence patterns. Individual electricity indicators are modeled by allowing for apparent heterogeneous transitions. Log t convergence test results indicate that all 109 countries converge to a common stochastic trend for electricity intensity while per capita electricity c...

This article focuses on the electricity industry and electricity consumption of population and industrial enterprises in Russia is analyzed. Economic factors that affect energy consumption are studied by the Vector Autoregression Analysis (VAR). The relationship between variables is defined by Granger test, and it also considers scenarios of reactions of electricity consumption on exogenous sho...

South Africa has undergone major political, social and economic changes during the past two decades. Partially, as a result of these, the country has begun to experience serious electricity supply shortages [1] and critical energy predicaments. The electricity crisis in 2008 was, among others, attributed to the mismatch between the supply and the demand for electricity and affected the whole ec...

In Australia, as electricity prices have increased, driven mainly by increases in peak demand, electricity use has decreased every year since 2008/09. The factors most responsible for these decreases include increased electricity costs, energy efficiency, solar water heaters and photovoltaics. Further increases in electricity prices and uptake of these technologies could result in further reduc...

The aim of this study was to evaluate life cycle environmental impacts associated with the generation of electricity from biogas produced by the anaerobic digestion (AD) of agricultural products and waste. Five real plants in Italy were considered, using maize silage, slurry, and tomato waste as feedstocks and cogenerating electricity and heat; the latter is not utilized. The results suggest th...
