A facile carbon radical reaction procedure and a chemical reduction method were proposed to synthesize Ag nanoparticles on functionalized graphene with uniform, high dispersion and excellent stability. The resultant material showed excellent electrocatalytic activity to nitroaromatic compounds and high sensitivity to the detection of nitroaromatic compounds.

A novel non-precious multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNTs)—supported metal oxide electrocatalyst was developed for methanol electrooxidation in alkaline medium. The catalyst was fabricated by simultaneous electrodeposition of copper-cobalt-nickel ternary nanostructures (CuCoNi) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with CNTs. The proposed electrode was characterized using X-ray diffraction ...

A novel high aspect ratio material which can simultaneously display multiple functions such as proton and electron conductivity and electrocatalytic activity has been developed by incorporating both platinum nanoparticles and phosphoric acid doped polybenzimidazole along the inner and outer surfaces of a hollow carbon nanofiber.

A nanoporous gold film (NPGF) was prepared onto a gold electrode surface using a facile and green electrochemical approach via anodization at 2.0 V in 0.5 mol L(-1) H2SO4. The as-synthesized NPGF electrode showed superior electrocatalytic activity towards dissolved oxygen reduction at a low overpotential (-0.045 V) along with 2-fold enhanced sensitivity.

Two novel open-chain carboxyethyltin decorated sandwich-type germanotungstates have been successfully synthesized. They could markedly increase the electrocatalytic activity of single-walled carbon nanotubes toward triiodide reduction when assembled into composite electrodes, which have shown a conversion efficiency of 6.32% that is comparable to that of Pt electrodes (6.29%) when used as count...

Hollow PdCu alloyed nanocubes were successfully synthesized by a novel one-pot template-free strategy through tuning the surface energy difference of the crystal planes by alloying. Compared with the solid nanoparticles, the hollow nanocubes exhibit superior electrocatalytic activity and stability for formic acid oxidation.

Porous Pt-Ni-P composite nanotube arrays (NTAs) on a conductive substrate in good solid contact are successfully synthesized via template-assisted electrodeposition and show high electrochemical activity and long-term stability for methanol electrooxidation. Hollow nanotubular structures, porous nanostructures, and synergistic electronic effects of various elements contribute to the high electr...

An all-carbon hybrid, composed of coal-based nitrogen-doped carbon dots decorated on graphene, was prepared via hydrothermal treatment. The hybrid possesses comparable electrocatalytic activity, better durability and methanol tolerance than those of the commercial Pt-based electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction, indicative of its great potential in fuel cells.

Heat treatment of graphene oxide (GO) with ammonia flow at various temperatures resulted in different distribution of nitrogen species. Synchrotron based X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy provides unambiguous evidence for the presence of three nitrogen species. The Pt/NG-800 composite exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation.

In this work, we successfully, for the first time, perform the molecular doping of graphene as metal-free electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction. The doped small molecule onto graphene could induce the charge transfer between graphene and the molecules, which leads to significantly enhanced electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction.
