Magnetic hybrid liquid crystalline composites have been obtained either by thermal decomposition of a cobalt precursor in a solution containing a liquid crystal polymer or by dispersing preformed cobalt nanorods in a liquid crystal polymer matrix. The first hypoxanthine (hypH)-assisted 3D Cu(II)-tetracarboxylate framework, {[Cu(2)(hypH)(0.5)(H(2)O)(0.5)(btec)]·1.5H(2)O}(n) (btec = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate), was synthesized and exhibits long-range ferromagnetic ordering below 4.5 K, which opens a new window for the applications of nucleobase-based MOFs as magnetic materials.
B-H–curves are used for modeling ferromagnetic materials in connection with electromagnetic field computations. Starting from real–life measurement data, we present an approximation technique which is based on the use of spline functions and a data–dependent smoothing functional. It preserves physical properties, such as monotonicity, and is robust with respect to noise in the measurements.
Unipolar devices constructed from ferromagnetic semiconducting materials with variable magnetization direction are shown theoretically to behave very similarly to nonmagnetic bipolar devices such as the p − n diode and the bipolar (junction) transistor. Such devices may be applicable for magnetic sensing, nonvolatile memory, and reprogrammable logic.
