This paper uses data drawn from the English Football League to model separate hazard rates for club managers for the 2001/2, 2002/3 and 2003/4 seasons. On average over the three seasons, approximately one-third of managers involuntarily exited employment status with their club. We model the hazard using a standard logistic model exploiting information on the spell at risk rather than the indivi...
This paper e.vatnines whether a severe flood causes homeowners to update their assessment of ßood risk as seen in a change in the price of fhodphtin property. I use data on all single-family. residential property sales in St, Louis County. Missouri, hetweeti 1979 and 2006 in a repeat-sales model and a property fixed-effects model. After the ¡993 ßood on the Mi.ssouri and Mississippi rivers, pro...
Refrigerator ownership in rural China increased from 14% to 45% over the period 2001-2010.We test the impact on demand for food, particularly meat, using fixed-effect and demand system approaches based on provincial data. Results suggest that rising refrigerator ownership had a negative effect on rural at-home meat demand.
This paper empirically analyses entry by generic firms into the strictly regulated Spanish pharmaceutical market. We estimate a fixed effects negative binomial entry model using a panel of 77 active ingredient markets during the period 1999– 2005. The results show that generic entry depends positively on revenues, the age of themarket, and the number of previous brand-name competitors, and nega...
Many studies have argued that relative income predicts individual well-being. More recently, it has been suggested that the relative rank of an individual’s income, rather than how that income compares to a mean or reference income, is important. Here the relative rank hypothesis is examined along with the additional hypothesis that individuals compare their incomes predominantly with those of ...
The rate of nucleotide substitution is generally believed to be a decreasing function of effective population size, at least for nonsynonymous substitutions. This view was originally based on consideration of slightly deleterious mutations with a fixed distribution of selection coefficients. A realistic model must include the occurrence and fixation of some advantageous mutations that compensat...
1 We present an asymptotically exact solution of the ∞ − d Hubbard model at a special interaction strength U T corresponding to the strong-coupling Fermi-liquid fixed point. This solution is intimately related to the Toulouse limit of the single-impurity Kondo model and the symmetric Anderson model in its strong-coupling limit.
Abstract. We reconsider stability of the non-trivial fixed point in 6− ǫ dimensional effective action for the random field Ising model derived by Brézin and De Dominicis. After expansion parameters of physical observables are clarified, we find that the nontrivial fixed point in 6 − ǫ dimensions is stable, contrary to the argument by Brézin and De Dominicis. We also computed the exponents ν and...
