The moments approach is generally considered a systematic way to perform the analysis of coherent optical systems. Exact moments of the filtered signal corrupted by phase noise enable the construction of the Gaussian quadrature rule, which may be used to calculate the system error probability. In this paper, we extend the method to a wider class of systems to include the cases where the interch...

The energy detection M-ary Gaussian frequency-shift keying (FSK) system is proposed in this paper. The system performance is analyzed in additive white Gaussian noise channels, multipath channels, and in the presence of synchronization errors. The numerical results show that the M-ary modulation achieves the higher data rate than the binary modulation. However, it also results in performance de...

The paper focuses on the design and implementation of the base-band basic receiving functions, for a binary CP-FSK demodulator pilot study, as independent modules of a complete Reconfigurable Data-Link (RDL). A model-based approach and Software Defined Radio (SDR) paradigm are used for the design. The implementation will be executed on Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based hardware.

We revisit the problem of evaluating the performances of communication systems with optical amplifiers and a wideband optical filter. We compute the exact probability of error and the optimal threshold and compare them with those predicted by Gaussian approximations for ASK, FSK or DPSK modulations, both for ideal photodetectors and for the case where shot noise is significant.

Lipolysis in adipocytes is regulated by phosphorylation of lipid droplet-associated proteins, including perilipin 1A and hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL). Perilipin 1A is potentially phosphorylated by cAMP(adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate)-dependent protein kinase (PKA) on several sites, including conserved C-terminal residues, serine 497 (PKA-site 5) and serine 522 (PKA-site 6). To character...

In the small satellite world, it is becoming increasingly popular to use a constellation of small satellites to do the work previously performed by one large satellite. Implicit in this scenario is the requirement for clusters of small satellites to communicate among themselves via an inter-satellite link (ISL). Traditionally, an ISL has taken the form of a time-division-multiple-access (TDMA) ...

High Frequency(HF) radio modems are required to operate over a broad range of adverse channel conditions such as severe multi-path, fading, partial-band and carrier-wave interference as well as impulsive noise. The only compensation for the HF modem designer is that the number of digital signal processing(DSP) operations available per bit is usually high. The design of both serial and parallel ...

BACKGROUND The cell membrane water channel protein, aquaporins (AQPs), regulate cellular water transport and cell volume and play a key role in water homeostasis. Recently, AQPs are considered as important players in the field of reproduction. In previous studies, we have established the presence of AQP1 and 5 in porcine uterus. Their expression at protein level altered in distinct tissues of t...

LVH (left ventricular hypertrophy) is associated with impaired coronary vascular reserve. In the present study, we examined the effect of pressure-overload hypertrophy on vasorelaxant responses of guinea-pig isolated coronary small arteries and compared them with mesenteric small arteries. Pressure-overload was induced by banding the ascending aorta of guinea-pigs. Haemodynamics, and ventricula...
