The surface modified polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microchannels show a much more inferior performance to the durable and reproducible glass chip. In this paper, a facile approach to preparing a silicate glass modified PDMS microchannel for glass-like performance is presented. This glass-like performance is made possible by a phase conversion of a preceramic polymer--allylhydridopolycarbosilane (...

Monolayers of charged polystyrene latex particles ranging in size from 100 nm to 10 m were deposited on oppositely charged polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) by electrostatic interactions and capillary forces. Ultrathin PEMs (∼30 nm) formed on a glass slide provided an e p i a l s c a ©

The product of myo-inositol-1-phosphate synthase, EC 5.5.1.4, from mature pollen of Lilium longiflorum Thunb., cv Ace (Easter lily) and that of myo-inositol kinase, EC 2.7.1.64, from wheat germ has been identified as 1l-myo-inositol-1-phosphate by gas chromatography of its trimethylsilyl-methyl phosphate derivative on a glass capillary column bearing a chiral phase.

We report significant advances in the fabrication of low loss chalcogenide microstructured optical fiber (MOF). This new method, consisting in molding the glass in a silica cast made of capillaries and capillary guides, allows the development of various designs of fibers, such as suspended core, large core or small core MOFs. After removing the cast in a hydrofluoric acid bath, the preform is d...

This paper presents an overview of our recent work on the use of soft lithography and two-phase fluid flow to form arrays of droplets. The crucial issues in the formation of stable arrays of droplets and alternating droplets of two sets of aqueous solutions include the geometry of the microchannels, the capillary number, and the water fraction of the system. Glass capillaries could be coupled t...

We describe a method to fabricate tapered glass nozzles suitable for liquid-jet-target generation in laser-plasma soft x-ray and extreme ultraviolet sources. In the method, a tapered nozzle is formed as an integral part of a flexible capillary glass tubing. The method makes use of inert materials, extending the possible choice of target liquids compared to current nozzles. It also provides flex...

We report a method for simultaneous ionic current measurements of single molecules across up to 16 solid state nanopore channels. Each device, costing less than $20, contains 16 glass nanopores made by laser assisted capillary pulling. We demonstrate simultaneous multichannel detection of double stranded DNA and trapping of DNA origami nanostructures to form hybrid nanopores.

Capillary array electrophoresis (CAE) microplates that can analyze 96 samples in less than 8 min have been produced by bonding 10-cm-diameter micromachined glass wafers to form a glass sandwich structure. The microplate has 96 sample wells and 48 separation channels with an injection unit that permits the serial analysis of two different samples on each capillary. An elastomer sheet with an 8 b...

Microinjection is a promising tool for microdroplet generation, while the microinjection for microdroplets generation still remains a challenging issue due to the Laplace pressure at the micropipette opening. Here, we apply a simple and robust substrate-contacting microinjection method to microdroplet generation, presenting a size-adjustable microdroplets generation method based on a critical i...

Capillary electrophoresis arrays have been fabricated on planar glass substrates by photolithographic masking and chemical etching techniques. The photolithographically defined channel patterns were etched in a glass substrate, and then capillaries were formed by thermally bonding the etched substrate to a second glass slide. High-resolution electrophoretic separations of phi X174 Hae III DNA r...
