Seed cotton yield is a trait governed by multiple genes that cause changes in the performance of genotypes depending on the cultivation environment. Breeding programs examine the genotype x environment interaction (GE) using precise statistical methods, such as AMMI (additive main effects and multiplicative interaction) and GGE biplot (genotype main effects + genotype x environment interaction)...
A model is presented which enables gas exchange data to be used to partition the intracellular resistance to leaf photosynthesis into carboxylation and transport components. A basic assumption is that the over-all kinetics of the carboxylation reaction fit the Michaelis-Menten equation. The model was tested for cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L., var. Deltapine Smoothleaf), where photorespiration was...
Genetic architecture of branch traits has large influences on the morphological structure, photosynthetic capacity, planting density, and yield of Upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). This research aims to reveal the genetic effects of six branch traits, including bottom fruit branch node number (BFBNN), bottom fruit branch length (BFBL), middle fruit branch node number (MFBNN), middle fruit ...
We announce here the genome sequence of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain UCMB5036, a plant growth-promoting bacterium isolated from a cotton plant. Its genome contains gene clusters involved in nonribosomal synthesis of secondary metabolites known for their antimicrobial activities. The availability of this genome will provide novel insights into plant-bacterium-associated activities.
This paper attempts to identify sources of resource use inefficiency for cotton production in Pakistan’s Punjab. The use of a non-parametric method, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), is developed to study the relative technical and allocative efficiencies of individual farms which use similar inputs, produce the same product and operate under comparable circumstances. In the ‘cotton–wheat’ syste...
Continuous transpiration and beta-guage measurements were made on cotton plants, the stomatal apertures of which had been induced to oscillate, thus allowing a water balance to be made, and leaf potential to be measured as functions of time.Analyses showed phase differences between the water entering and leaving the leaf. Also, from the phase relationship between the flow into the leaf and the ...
