The Ti1 pioneer neurons of embryonic grasshopper limbs extend axons between the limb epithelium and its basal lamina. Their growth cones exhibit high affinity for both limb segment boundaries and immature neurons. We have investigated the role of the basal lamina in growth cone adhesion to neurons and segment boundaries by removing the basal lamina with mild enzymatic digestion when the Ti1 gro...

there are several strategies for maintenance and repairing of devices in industry. however, they are still confronted with many uncertainties. a hydraulic lifting device after ten years of working in a technical center in isfahan is faced with uncertainty in terms of reliability. being able to know the reliability of pieces means predicting failure occurrences, which is accomplished by conditio...

‎in this paper‎, ‎we introduce the notion of the radical of a $pmv$-algebra $a$ and we charactrize radical $a$ via elements of $a$‎. ‎also‎, ‎we introduce the notion of the radical of a $cdot$-ideal in $pmv$-algebras‎. ‎several characterizations of this radical is given‎. ‎we define the notion of a semimaximal $cdot$-ideal in a $pmv$-algebra‎. ‎finally we show that $a/i$ has no nilpotent elemen...

This study investigates whether the learning of prosodic cues to word boundaries in speech segmentation is more difficult if the native and second/foreign languages (L1 and L2) have similar (though non-identical) prosodies than if they have markedly different prosodies (Prosodic-Learning Interference Hypothesis). It does so by comparing French, Korean, and English listeners' use of fundamental-...

This study investigates whether learning to use prosodic cues to word boundaries in second-language speech segmentation is easier or more difficult if the native and second languages have similar (though non-identical) prosodies than if they have markedly different prosodies. It compares French, Korean, and English listeners’ use of fundamental-frequency rise and lengthening as cues to word-fin...

We study the Schwinger model on a lattice consisting of zeros of the Hermite polynomials that incorporates a lattice derivative and a discrete Fourier transform with many properties. Such a lattice produces a Klein-Gordon equation for the boson field and the exact value of the mass in the asymptotic limit if the boundaries are not taken into account. On the contrary, if the lattice is considere...

We study the motion of a camphor disk on the water surface in a system with flexible boundaries. The boundaries can be dynamically modified by non-uniform surface tension resulting from the nonhomogeneous surface concentration of the camphor molecules dissipated by the disk. We investigate the geometry of the boundaries that forces unidirectional motion of the disk. The studied system can be re...

Several domain decomposition methods for approximating solutions of parabolic problems are given. These methods rely on implicit Galerkin procedures in the subdomains and explicit flux calculation on the inter-domain boundaries. The procedures are conservative both in the subdomains and across inter-domain boundaries. A priori error bounds and experimental results are presented.

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the almost sure (a.s.) relative stability of the overshoot of a random walk when it exits from a two-sided symmetric region with curved boundaries. The boundaries are of power-law type, ±rn, r > 0, n = 1, 2, · · · , where 0 ≤ b < 1, b 6= 1/2. In these cases, the a.s. stability occurs if and only if the mean step length of the random walk is finite...

The large-N limit of the two-dimensional U(N) Yang-Mills theory on an arbitrary orientable compact surface with boundaries is studied. It is shown that if the holonomies of the gauge field on boundaries are near the identity, then the critical behavior of the system is the same as that of an orientable surface without boundaries with the same genus but with a modified area. The diffenece betwee...
