We have measured the angular diameters of six M dwarfs with the CHARA Array, a long-baseline optical interferometer located at Mount Wilson Observatory. Spectral types range from M1.0 V to M3.0 Vand linear radii from 0.38 to 0.69 R . These results are consistent with the seven other M dwarf radii measurements from optical interferometry and with those for 14 stars in eclipsing binary systems. W...

Cataclysmic variables are binary stars in which a relatively normal star is transferring mass to its compact companion. This interaction gives rise to a rich range of behaviour, of which the most noticeable are the outbursts that give the class its name. Novae belong to the class, as do the less well known dwarf novae and magnetic systems. Novae draw their energy from nuclear reactions, while d...

Since the chemical evolution of galaxies seems to differ between morphological types and deviates in many details from the standard scenario the question has to be addressed when, how and to what amount metal-enriched ejecta from Supernovae and Planetary Nebulae polute their environment. Since recent observations of dwarf galaxies show no significant metal abundance gradients throughout the gal...

ABSTRACT Pollution of white dwarf atmospheres may be caused by asteroids that originate from the locations secular and mean-motion resonances in planetary systems. Asteroids these experience increased eccentricity, leading to tidal disruption dwarf. We examine how ?6 resonance shifts outwards into a previously stable region asteroid belt, as star evolves Analytic models require planet engulfed ...

astrophysics is becoming now an integral part of general physics. considering the black hole theory ,which is a new and exciting branch of relativistic astrophysics, we see many connections between elementary particle physics and astrophysics. in this article we attempt to explain the development of star physics ,in an easy ,understandable manner. previous knowledge of relativistic theory or cl...

We show that irradiation of the accretion disc by the white dwarf limits the occurrence of dwarf nova outbursts in post nova accretion discs. After the nova explosion, the white dwarf has to cool for up to ∼ 100 yr – depending on the orbital period (i.e., disc size) and the temperature of the white dwarf after the nova-eruption – before the disc can begin producing dwarf nova outbursts. During ...

Snell dwarf mice have multiple hormonal deficits, but the way in which these deficits postpone aging are still uncertain. In this study, Snell dwarf mice received 11 weeks of growth hormone and thyroxine injections that increased their weight by approximately 45%, although they remained much smaller than controls. The hormone treatment also restored fertility to male dwarf mice. Despite these e...

PURPOSE To test the hypothesis that cardiac morphologic differences between Ames dwarf and wild-type littermates might correlate with the increased longevity observed in the Ames dwarf mice. METHODS Hearts removed from young adult (5-7 mo) and old (24-28 mo) Ames dwarf and wild-type littermates underwent histological and morphometric analysis. Measurements of cell size, nuclear size, and coll...

This paper presents a comparative study of state-of-the-art neurocomputing methods applied to several benchmark time series, including the white dwarf light curve. The goal is to determine which of the predictive models work best for data from natural sources. The emphasis is on using a unified methodology for selection of the best architectures among those used for comparison. The specific arc...
