Food waste, which is the second largest component in landfills, generates excessive amounts of leachate and greenhouse gas. As a result, it has recently become severe concern, mostly developing countries for its adverse impact on environment. The addition nutrients to organic waste limits accumulation volatile fatty acid (VFA) accelerates production energy from food waste. objective current stu...

The effect of two media, three pH values, and three inoculum densities on the activity of ceftizoxime and Sch-34343 against anaerobic bacteria was evaluated. The activities of both antimicrobial agents were affected by medium composition, especially against Bacteroides fragilis. Changes in pH and inoculum size affected only the activity of ceftizoxime against anaerobic bacteria.

This fuel ethanol study examined the effects of Saccharomyces cerevisiae inoculum size on solid-phase fermentation of fodder beet pulp. A 5% inoculum (wt/wt) resulted in rapid yeast and ethanol (9.1% [vol/vol]) production. Higher inocula showed no advantages. Lower inocula resulted in lowered final yeast populations and increased fermentation times.

Norepinephrine is a stress hormone that enhances bacterial growth. We examined the effects of a small inoculum on the norepinephrine-induced growth of species previously reported to be unaffected by norepinephrine. The results indicated that a reduced inoculum density is essential for observing norepinephrine-induced effects. Additional studies using serum-free media suggested that transferrin ...

Inoculum size and incubation time were varied during broth microdilution testing of the susceptibilities of 35 strains of lactic acid bacteria to six antibiotics. An increase in either parameter resulted in elevated MICs for all species. An inoculum of 3 x 10(5) CFU/ml is recommended to assess the antibiotic susceptibilities of these bacteria by using broth microdilution.

The compound 2,5-di(hydroxymethyl)furan (DHMF) is a high-value chemical block that can be synthesized from 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), platform results the dehydration of biomass-derived carbohydrates. In this work, HMF biotransformation capability different Fusarium species was evaluated, and F. striatum selected to produce DHMF. effects inoculum size, glucose concentration pH media over DH...

In vitro antifungal susceptibility testing for filamentous fungi remains unstandardized and is unreliable for determining adequate therapy. A study was performed to evaluate the effect of inoculum size (10(2), 10(3), 10(4), and 10(5) conidia/ml), incubation time (48 and 72 h), and temperature (25, 30, and 35 degrees C) on MICs of amphotericin B for Fusarium spp. (20 strains). The inoculum size ...

Scrapie is a naturally occurring fatal neurodegenerative disease of sheep and goats. Susceptibility to the disease is partly dependent upon the genetic makeup of the host. In a previous study it was shown that sheep intracerebrally inoculated with US scrapie inoculum (No. 13-7) developed terminal disease within an average of 19 months. We have since produced an inoculum, No. x124 from pooled br...

Spatial patterns of pathogen inoculum in field soils and the resulting patterns of disease may reflect the underlying mechanisms of pathogen dispersal. This knowledge can be used to design more efficient sampling schemes for assessing diseases. Spatial patterns of Verticillium dahliae microsclerotia were characterized in commercial cotton fields through quadrat and point sampling in 1994 and 20...
