Most recent research in learning approaches to natural language have studied fairly "low-level" tasks such as morphology, part-of-speech tagging, and syntactic parsing. However, I believe that logical approaches may have the most relevance and impact at the level of semantic interpretation, where a logical representation of sentence meaning is important and useful. We have explored the use of i...

Abstract Using German survey and expert data on job tasks, this paper explores the presence of omitted-variable bias suspected in conventional task derived from assessment. I show data, which is expressed at occupation-level, introduces returns order 26–34%. Motivated by a theoretical framework, argue results ignoring individual heterogeneity rather than fundamental differences assessment tasks...

Interpretation is the process whereby a hearer reasons to an interpretation of a speaker’s discourse. The hearer normally adopts a credulous attitude to the discourse, at least for the purposes of interpreting it. That is to say the hearer tries to accommodate the truth of all the speaker’s utterances in deriving an intended model. We present a non-monotonic logical model of this process which ...

This thesis investigates our sensitivity to social signals from the face, both in health and disease, and explores some of the methodologies employed to measure them. The first set of experiments used forced choice and free naIll1ng paradigms to investigate the interpretation of a set of facial expressions by Western and Japanese participants. Performance in the forced choice task exceeded that...

A uniform multiprocessor machine is comprised of an integer number of processors. Each processor P is characterized by a computing capacity P:c with the interpretation that a job executing on processor P for t time units completes (Pj:c t) units of execution. The scheduling of systems of periodic tasks on uniform multiprocessor systems is considered.

This paper describes our system for detection and interpretation of English puns. We participated in 2 subtasks related to homographic puns achieve comparable results for these tasks. Through the paper we provide detailed description of the approach, as well as the results obtained in the task. Our models achieved an F1-score of 77.65% for Subtask 1 and 52.15% for Subtask 2.

abstract the present study examined the effect of genre-based tasks on efl learners' speaking performance and probed whether genre-based tasks may empower efl learners to perform better on speaking tests. a further concern of the study was to explore whether the effect of genre-based tasks on speaking ability of efl learners varied across different age groups, i.e. teenagers (13-16 years o...

Image interpretation consists in finding a correspondence between radiometric information and symbolic labelling with respect to specific spatial constraints. To cope with the difficulty of image interpretation, several information processing steps are required to gradually extract information from the image grey levels and to introduce symbolic information. In this paper, we evaluate the use o...
