Emulsion explosive is a form of water in oil emulsions. They include a mixture of fuel and oxidizer and other components. Emulsions are a new type of industrial explosive materials. Because of the stability, high safety and well explosive performance, are used as a powerful and inexpensive source of energy in agriculture, water conservancy, transportation, mining, building materials and etc. So...

titanium and its alloy are known as important load-bearing biomaterials. the major drawbacks of these metals are fibrous formation and low corrosion rate after implantation. the surface modification of biomedical implants through various methods such as plasma spray improves their osseointegration and clinical lifetime. different materials have been already used as coatings on biomedical implan...

Cells can switch the functional states of extracellular matrix proteins by stretching them while exerting mechanical force. Using steered molecular dynamics, we investigated how the mechanical stability of FnIII modules from the cell adhesion protein fibronectin is affected by natural variations in their amino acid sequences. Despite remarkably similar tertiary structures, FnIII modules share l...

We use single-molecule force spectroscopy to demonstrate that the mechanical stability of the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) is modulated by ligand binding. In the absence of bound ligands, DHFR extends at very low forces, averaging 27 pN, without any characteristic mechanical fingerprint. By contrast, in the presence of micromolar concentrations of the ligands methotrexate, nicotinamide...

The stability properties of a class of dissipative quantum mechanical systems are investigated. The nonlinear stability and asymptotic stability of stationary states (with zero and nonzero dissipation respectively) is investigated by Liapunov’s direct method. The results are demonstrated by numerical calculations on the example of the damped harmonic oscillator.

The desire to attain a deeper understanding of the fundamental aspects governing the mechanical properties of biofilms has become more prominent in recent years. This has largely been due to the realization that these sessile microbial communities often withstand environments where hydrodynamic turbulence and shearing forces are considerable. In the present study, Escherichia coli K-12 was used...

The mechanical properties of sickle erythrocyte membranes were evaluated in the ektacytometer. When ghosts from the total red blood cell population were examined, the rigidity of the resealed ghosts and their rate of fragmentation by shear stress (t1/2) were normal. However, fractionation on Stractan density gradients revealed that sickle cells were heterogenous in their membrane mechanical pro...

The synthesis of ceramic materials combining high porosity and permeability with good mechanical stability is challenging, as optimising the latter requires compromises regarding the first two properties. Nonetheless, significant progress can be made in this direction by taking advantage of the structural design principles evolved by nature. Natural cellular solids achieve good mechanical stabi...

Despite numerous studies on chemical and thermal stability of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), mechanical stability remains largely undeveloped. To date, no strategy exists to control the mechanical deformation of MOFs under ultrahigh pressure. Here, we show that the mechanically unstable MOF-520 can be retrofitted by precise placement of a rigid 4,4'-biphenyldicarboxylate (BPDC) linker as a "g...
