A consecutive series of 150 patients with clavicular fractures is presented. In 81% detailed information regarding the mechanism of the injury was available and, of these, 94% had fractured their clavicle from a direct blow on the shoulder; only 6% had fallen on the outstretched hand. This finding, at variance with commonly held views regarding the mechanism of this injury, was further investig...

A dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint is a particularly threatening injury given the close proximity of neighboring vital structures. Moreover, a traumatic injury resulting in a comminuted fracture of the medial clavicle in addition to joint instability results in even greater complexity. In the setting of sternoclavicular joint instability, definitive treatment that will lead to complete...

BACKGROUND Clavicle fractures account for around 4% of all fractures and up to 44% of fractures of the shoulder girdle. Fractures of the middle third (or mid-shaft) account for approximately 80% of all clavicle fractures. Management of this group of fractures is often challenging and the outcome can be unsatisfactory. In particular it is not clear whether surgery produces better outcomes than n...

conclusions higher age of cyclists and increasing speed of the accident opponent significantly increase the likelihood of sustaining facial fractures. the use of bicycle helmets does not significantly reduce the incidence of mid-facial fractures, while being correlated with an even increased incidence of mandibular fractures. background the effectiveness of bicycle safety helmets in preventing ...

National Hunt jockeys suffer a disproportionate number of clavicular fractures and their return to riding may be considerably delayed by refracture and symptomatic nonunion, with obvious implications. We report six such cases in which excision of the clavicular fragment distal to the fracture was associated with an early return to work and no recurrent injury to the shoulder.

BACKGROUND Displaced fractures of the distal clavicle are inherently unstable and lead to nonunion in a high percentage of cases. The optimal surgical management remains controversial. HYPOTHESIS Indirect osteosynthesis with a closed-loop double endobutton construct would result in reliable fracture union and obviate the need for additional surgery. Clavicle fractures are frequent injuries in athletes and midshaft clavicle fractures in particular are well-known injuries in Ironman triathletes. In 2000, Auzou et al. described the mechanism leading to an isolated truncular paralysis of the musculocutaneous nerve after a shoulder trauma. It is well-known that nerve palsies can lead to an atrophy of the associated muscle if they persist for mo...

Background: Various plates are available for mid shaft displaced clavicle fractures, each with its own set of benefits and drawbacks. Although reconstruction inexpensive easily bendable, their stability strength have been called into doubt. In comparison to the plate, anatomical pre-contoured locking give great strength. Methods: To compare results, a study [prospective] was done 30 patients fra...

BACKGROUND Despite that a mid-third simple transverse femoral shaft fracture has been traditionally treated with an unlocked reamed intramedullary nail, recently a static locked reamed intramedullary nail has been favored by some orthopedists to avoid missing extended fracture lines. A prospective comparison of both nails was conducted to investigate the superiority between the nails from biome...

Mid-distal third humeral shaft fractures can be effectively treated with minimally invasive plating osteosynthesis and intramedullary nailing (IMN). However, these 2 treatments have not been adequately compared. Forty-seven patients (47 fractures) with mid-distal third humeral shaft fractures were randomly allocated to undergo either minimally invasive plating osteosynthesis (n=24) or IMN (n=23...
