Isocyanides, thanks to their multiple reactivities, are the main players in multicomponent reactions. Eggshell was found to be a versatile heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of pyrano[3,2-c]quinoline derivatives in good yields. This protocol has the advantages of environmental friendliness, short reaction time, low cost and convenient operation.

This review gives an overview of the applications of ceria nanoparticles as inexpensive, efficient, reusable, and environmentally sustainable heterogeneous catalysts for the synthesis of a variety of key medicinal heterocyclic compounds with the emphasis on mechanistic aspects of the reactions. Literature has been surveyed from 2005 to 2018.

Simple three-component reactions between dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylate, primary amines and isothiocyanates in the presence of catalytic amount of ZnO nanorods are investigated in water at room temperature which produced thiazole derivatives in good yields.
