conclusions in this study, snpcr was specific and more sensitive than the chromogenic medium chromagar™ candida for the detection of candida spp. insofar as it failed to identify only a few isolates. materials and methods we used snpcr with universal and species-specific primers to detect candida species in the culture of clinical isolates. by using universal primers, we carried out the amplifi...

pneumocystis jirovecii causes pneumocystis pneumonia (pcp) in immunocompromised patients with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. colonization with this fungus may stimulate pulmonary inflammation or lead to pcp in susceptible patients. the epidemiology of this infection and routs of its transmission has poorly studied in iran. we examined pneumosystis colonization in patients with various ...

leptospirosis is a zoonosis of worldwide distribution, caused by leptospira interrogans and is considered as an emerging global public health problem. transmission usually results from direct or indirect exposure to the urine or other body fluids of leptospiruric animals which may become a source of infection for human or other animals. having a humid climate with plenty of annual rainfall, gui...

a rapid and sensitive reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rt-pcr) and nested-pcr were used to detect bovine viral diarrhea virus 1 (bvdv-1) in bull semen. selected primers could amplify a part of the 5´utr of the bvdv genome. a 294 bp dna fragment was amplified and specificity of the results was confirmed by direct sequencing of the pcr product. prior to rna extraction, the seminal...

The FHIT gene is a putative tumour suppressor gene. In this study, we analysed a set of 50 gastric tumours for alterations of FHIT, and found 38 of 45 tumours (84%) exhibiting loss of heterozygosity (LOH) within the FHIT gene. We used both nested Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) and single step RT-PCR to analyse the FHIT transcripts and found 34 of 39 (87%) tumours and s...

A nested PCR assay to detect parasite DNA in slit aspirates from skin lesions of patients with post-kala-azar dermal lesihmaniasis (PKDL) is described. PCR results were positive in 27 of 29 (93%) samples by nested PCR assay, while only 20 of 29 (69%) were positive in a primary PCR assay. The nested PCR assay allowed reliable diagnosis of PKDL in a noninvasive manner.

Robust high-throughput synthesis methods are needed to expand the repertoire of repetitive protein-polymers for different applications. To address this need, we developed a new method, overlap extension rolling circle amplification (OERCA), for the highly parallel synthesis of genes encoding repetitive protein-polymers. OERCA involves a single PCR-type reaction for the rolling circle amplificat...

Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) infection induces bovine leukemia in cattle and causes significant financial harm to farmers and farm management. There is no effective therapy or vaccine; thus, the diagnosis and elimination of BLV-infected cattle are the most effective method to eradicate the infection. Clinical veterinarians need a simpler and more rapid method of diagnosing infection, because bot...

Q fever is a worldwide zoonosis caused by Coxiella burnetii-a small obligate intracellular Gram-negative bacterium found in a variety of animals. It is transmitted to humans by inhalation of contaminated aerosols from urine, feces, milk, amniotic fluid, placenta, abortion products, wool, and rarely by ingestion of raw milk from infected animals. Nested PCR can improve the sensitivity and specif...
