The COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has posed a global threat to human lives and economics. One of the best ways determine protection against infection is quantify neutralizing activity serum antibodies. Multiple assays have been developed validate neutralization; most them utilized lentiviral or vesicular stomatitis virus-based particles pseudotyped with spike (S) protein, making safe a...
Various strategies for dealing with COVID-19 have been carried out since the WHO declared as an international health emergency. One of preventive is development vaccines. vaccines developed worldwide. As April 13, 2021, there were 184 vaccine candidates in pre-clinical phase and 16 currently III clinical trials using several platforms, such inactivated viruses, vector protein subunits, mRNA. Cl...
Tetanus is caused by the tetanus neurotoxin (TeNT), a 150 kDa single polypeptide molecule which is cleaved into an active two-chain molecule composed of a 50 kDa N-terminal light (L) and a 100 kDa C-terminal heavy (H) chains. Recently, extensive effort has focused on characterization of TeNT binding receptors and toxin neutralization by monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). Toxin binding inhibition and...
Herpes simplex virus glycoprotein D is a component of the virion envelope and appears to be involved in attachment, penetration, and cell fusion. Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) against this protein can be arranged in groups, on the basis of a number of biological and biochemical properties. Group I antibodies are type-common, have high complement-independent neutralization titers, recognize disco...
BACKGROUND Human Enterovirus 71 (EV71) is a common cause of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in young children. It is often associated with severe neurological diseases and has caused high mortalities in recent outbreaks across the Asia Pacific region. Currently, there is no effective vaccine and antiviral agents available against EV71 infections. VP1 is one of the major immunogenic capsid p...
A microneutralization test in PK(15) cells was developed to measure the neutralizing antibody response of a group of ponies experimentally challenged with louping ill virus. Viral cytopathic effect was maximal after 6 days of incubation, at which point titration endpoints were clear-cut and readily determinable. The assay compared favorably with the mouse neutralization test for accuracy and ea...
Monoclonal antibodies were derived against the SA11 simian, NIC bovine, and Wa human rotavirus strains and characterized by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, plaque neutralization, and hemagglutination inhibition. Several strain SA11-specific antibodies were found to have neutralizing and hemagglutination-inhibiting capacity.
background and aims: canine distemper (cd) is a deadly infectious disease of canidae family. cd is a multi-systemic viral disease and is specified by wide range of clinical symptoms. the manifestations are not always indicative of cd, therefore a laboratory confirmation is necessary for suspected cases. materials and methods: different clinical specimens of 19 cd suspected unvaccinated dogs wer...
Among our cohort of adolescents and young adults with perinatally acquired human immunodeficiency virus, few (17.6%) had measles protective antibodies by plaque reduction neutralization (PRN). Agreement was demonstrated between the commercial enzyme immunoassay and the PRN assay (K = 0.59 [95% confidence interval: 0.23-0.95]). Further studies are needed to understand the determinants of immunit...
We report an autochthonous human case of tickborne encephalitis (TBE) in the Bordeaux area, southwestern France. The patient was a farmer who had severe encephalomyelitis. ELISA and neutralization assay of serum and cerebrospinal fluid established the diagnosis. This potential new endemic focus for TBE virus should be further investigated.
