Absorption spectra and light-induced absorbance changes of crystals from Rhodopseudomonas viridis reaction centers are recorded. A theoretical analysis of the absorption and circular dichroism spectra is presented, yielding a consistent picture of spectroscopic and structural information.
The plant Amaranths viridis Linn, an annual herb from the Amaranthaceae family, is used in traditional medicine to cure a range of ailments and determine various criteria for pharmacognostical standards. A. vilidis L. leaf extract contains number biologically active substances, including saponins, tannins phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, cardiac glycosides, steroids, triterpenoids. amino acids l...
The LH-1 antenna of the purple bacterium Rhodopseudomonas Viridis has been investigated using femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. We find that qualitatively the relaxation processes are comparable to those in Rhodobacter sphaeroides and Rhodospirillum rubrum. Both the spectral relaxation and depolarization take place in approximately 150 fs, which suggests that the excitations in the LH-1 ring...
Interfacial water constitutes a formidable barrier to strong surface bonding, hampering the development of water-resistant synthetic adhesives. Notwithstanding this obstacle, the Asian green mussel Perna viridis attaches firmly to underwater surfaces via a proteinaceous secretion (byssus). Extending beyond the currently known design principles of mussel adhesion, here we elucidate the precise t...
The name Alnus viridis (Chaix) DC., based on Betula viridis Chaix (1785), has traditionally been attributed to green alders although it is based on a later basionym. Alnus alnobetula (Ehrh.) K. Koch based on Betula alnobetula Ehrh. (1783) is the correct name for green alders. In light of the increasing use and recognition of the name Alnus alnobetula (Ehrh.) K. Koch in the literature. I herein ...
The health of an organism depends on its self protective ability. The regulatory enzyme, biomarkers measurable changes have been used as an effective early warning tool in ecological risk assessment. In order to develop an integrated risk assessment strategy for the South east coast of India. The green mussels Perna viridis were collected from three sites along the southern east coast with diff...
Light-induced structural changes in the bacterial reaction center were studied by a time-resolved crystallographic experiment. Crystals of protein from Blastochloris viridis (formerly Rhodopseudomonas viridis) were reconstituted with ubiquinone and analyzed by monochromatic and Laue diffraction, in the dark and 3 ms after illuminating the crystal with a pulsed laser (630 nm, 3 mJ/pulse, 7 ns du...
The coffee agroforestry system provides an ideal platform for the study of spatial ecology. The uniform pattern of the coffee plants and shade trees allows for the study of pattern generation through intrinsic biological forces rather than extrinsic habitat patchiness. Detailed studies, focusing on a key mutualism between an ant (Azteca instabilis) and a scale insect (Coccus viridis), conducted...
Symbiotic associations accompanied by gene exchange between the symbionts form the phylogenetic origin of eukaryotic cells and, therefore, had significant impact on species diversity and evolutionary novelty. Among the phylogenetically oldest metazoan animals known to form symbiotic relationships are the Cnidaria. In the Cnidarian Hydra viridis, symbiotic algae of the genus Chlorella are locate...
