We examine a natural extension of D-term inflation and construct a successful model. General type of the D-term potential is shown to produce successful inflation with appropriate COBE normalization. The effect of the dilaton shift at the inflation period is taken into account. [email protected]

Knowing about cities that one lives in or wants to visit is of much interest to citizens, tourists, businesses, investors and governments. Open government data provides us this opportunity since data about various domains like crime, traffic and health are being made available by the government. In this paper, we present our approach of using open data from multiple agencies and domains in comp...

We describe an ongoing work in information extraction which is seen as a text normalization task. The normalized representation can be used to detect paraphrases in texts. Normalization and paraphrase detection tasks are built on top of a robust analyzer for English and are exclusively achieved using symbolic methods. Both grammar development rules and information extraction rules are expressed...

Spiking neural P systems are computing models inspired from the way the neurons communicate by means of spikes, electrical impulses of identical shapes. In this note we consider a further important ingredient related to brain functioning, the astrocyte cells which fed neurons with nutrients, implicitly controlling their functioning. Specifically, we introduce in our models only one feature of a...

The artistic use of error has a long history, and this essay attempts to reconstruct the genealogy of the relationship between artists and error. It then goes on to analyze the characteristics of technological error used in art along with the reasons for its appreciation by media artists and media activists. Finally, it contextualizes the practices of media art and media activism taken as exemp...

A normalized design approach has been developed that allows rapid estimates of parameters like the bend loss, finesse, and free spectral range of the fundamental microresonator modes of twoand three-dimensional microresonators. Based on this approach, the minimum size for a given finesse and the free spectral range for microresonators in silicon oxynitride technology are investigated.

This paper defines reduction on derivations in the strict intersection type assignment system of [1], by generalising cut-elimination, and shows a strong normalisation result for this reduction. Using this result, new proofs are given for the approximation theorem and the characterisation of normalisability using intersection types.

Episturmian morphisms constitute a powerful tool to study episturmian words. Indeed, any episturmian word can be infinitely decomposed over the set of pure episturmian morphisms. Thus, an episturmian word can be defined by one of its morphic decompositions or, equivalently, by a certain directive word. Here we characterize pairs of words directing a common episturmian word. We also propose a wa...

Given a topic-by-run score matrix from past data, topic set size design methods can help test collection builders determine the number of topics to create for a new test collection from a statistical viewpoint. In this study, we apply a recently-proposed score standardisation method called std-AB to score matrices before applying topic set size design, and demonstrate its advantages. For topic ...
