In forested ecosystems, water soluble organics play an important role in soil processes including carbon and nutrient turnover, microbial activity and pedogenesis. The quantity and quality (i.e., chemistry) of these materials is sensitive to land management practices. Monitoring alterations in the chemistry of water soluble orgat~ics resulting from land management practices is difficult because...

EUGENE GARFIELD Herbert A. Hauptman

In last year’s examination of the 1984 Nobel laureates in physics and chemistw, 1 I noted that Carlo Rubbia, Harvard University and the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva, Switzerland, and Simon van der Meer, also of CERN, received the physics prize barely two years after they identified the W and Z subatomic particles. This is one of the shortest intervals between discovery an...

Up to about the early 1980s it was perhaps still possible to summarize in a review of a moderate length the development of the medicinal applications of chelation chemistry and the exploitation of such chemistry in regulating the metal ion concentrations in the body. However, in the last few years there has a great surge in the development of chelation chemistry and its usage in medicine and re...

Recent results on minijet production in nuclear collisions at the RHIC and LHC energies are reviewed. Initial conditions of the QGP at τ = 0.1 fm/c, especially parton chemistry, thermalization and net baryon number-to-entropy ratio are discussed. Also, contribution of minijets from a hard BFKL-pomeron ladder will be estimated.
