A simple, efficient procedure for the one-pot Biginelli condensation reaction of aldehydes, beta-ketoesters and urea or thiourea employing copper(II) sulfamate as a novel catalyst is described. Compared to the classical Biginelli reaction conditions, the present method has the advantages of good yields, short reaction times and experimental simplicity.

A series of 2-arylquinazolines have been synthesized in moderate to excellent yields by one-pot tandem reaction of (2-aminophenyl)methanols, aldehydes and ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN). The utility of this transformation was demonstrated by its compatibility with a wide range of functional groups. Thus, the method represents a simple and practical procedure to access 2-arylquinazolines.

An efficient one-pot synthesis of 1,6-diamino-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro- pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile derivatives by four-component piperidine-catalyzed reactions of a ketone, malononitrile, ethyl cyanoacetate and hydrazine hydrate under ultrasound irradiation is described. This method provides several advantages such as shorter reaction times, excellent yields, and a simple workup procedure.

Selective ruthenium-catalyzed reductive coupling of primary amides under hydrosilylation conditions is achieved using an one pot procedure. Using 3 equiv. of phenylsilane and [RuCl2(mesitylene)]2 (1-2 mol%) as the catalyst at 100 °C under neat conditions, secondary symmetric amines were obtained in good yields and with high chemoselectivities.
