OBJECTIVE The wisdom of surgery facing multiple and multi-focal ribs fractures (flail segment) remains controversial. By the present retrospective study, we sought to determine the advisability of surgery as well as the anatomical and biomechanical features of flail segment leading to secondary dislocation. METHOD From 1970 to 2000, 127 patients underwent flail segment osteosynthesis. Clinica...

Fractures of the distal femur in young populations are usually due to a high-energy trauma mechanism. They often present with various associated osseous and soft tissue injuries. A case bilateral open fractures quadriceps tendon rupture is presented. This injury has not been previously reported literature. 45-year-old male patient who sustained an axial both his lower limbs after jumping from h...

Vertebral angioma is a common bone tumor. We report a case of L1 vertebral angioma revealed by type A3.2 traumatic pathological fracture of the same vertebra. Management comprised emergency percutaneous osteosynthesis and, after stabilization of the multiple trauma, arterial embolization and percutaneous kyphoplasty.

We present a potential indication of a short-stemmed femoral component in a patient with multiple comorbidities presenting with hip posttraumatic osteoarthritis and a long dynamic condylar screw osteosynthesis plate. Removal of the plate and implantation of a long stem would have been related to a much longer operative time and potential local or systemic complications.

BACKGROUND The optimal surgical management of dislocated three- and four-part fractures of the proximal humerus in elderly patients remains unclear. Most used techniques are hemiarthroplasty and angle-stable locking compression plate osteosynthesis. In the current literature there is no evidence available presenting superior results between hemiarthroplasty and angle-stable locking compression ...

Soft tissue defect of the lower leg with exposure of bone, tendon, and osteosynthesis plates or total knee artthroplasty is a challenging therapeutic problem. The gastrocnemius muscle flap is one option for coverage. This flap is probably one of the safest flaps, and relatively easy to dissect. However, about functional loss for higher loads especially in sports activities is reported in the li...

We report a very rare case of a 16-year-old healthy athletic boy who sustained simultaneous bilateral transitional fractures of the proximal tibia after kicking a football with his right leg during a soccer game. Following minimal invasive plate osteosynthesis with bridging of the growth plate, the patient recovered rapidly without any growth disturbances.

The treatment of humeral shaft fractures ranges from conservative modalities to operative fixation, including plate osteosynthesis and intramedullary fixation. Nonunion is a complication of conservative and operative interventions but is more often associated with elastic nailing. This article discusses elucidates the successful outcomes achieved with flexible nailing of humeral shaft fractures.

BACKGROUND Multiple traumatic injuries are severe conditions with a high risk of complications. Hemorrhage, multiple organ failure syndrome (MOFS), systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and sepsis are the most dangerous sequelae. ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) is a part of MOFS. Despite new strategies of prevention and care, the mortality associated with these conditions st...

Fracture healing is a complex physiological process caused by the interaction of cellular elements that are activated and controlled by an array of cytokines and signalling proteins [11]. This process is both temporal and spatial in nature and usually results in the formation of new bone, which is structurally and mechanically similar to the pre-fracture state [10]. For al lot of reasons this p...
