A 4-channel multi-wavelength laser integrated on a silicon waveguide circuit is realized. We present a hybrid silicon evanescent amplifier utilizing a wafer bonded structure of silicon waveguide and AlGaInAs quantum wells. A silicon photonic waveguide system with mode-division and wavelength-division-multiplexing capabilities is demonstrated. Error-free (BER < 10−12) data transmission of 2 modal channels and 3wavelengths operating with aggregate bandwidth of 60-Gb/s is realized. This work motivates future bandwidth scalability of silicon photonic interconnects.
Theoretical and numerical analyses of waveguide branches in a photonic crystal are presented. Conditions for perfect transmission and zero reflection are discussed. Highly efficient transmission of 1.5-microm light in a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal slab waveguide is experimentally demonstrated.
