A novel method for the arrival rate estimation of multi-dimensional non-homogeneous Poisson processes is presented. The method provides a smooth, piecewise polynomial spline estimator of any prescribed order of differentiability. At the heart of the algorithm is a maximum-likelihood optimization model with sum of squares polynomial constraints, which characterize a proper subset of smooth arriv...
The construction of weighted splines by knot insertion techniques such as deBoor and Oslo type algorithms leads immediately to the problem of evaluating integrals of polynomial splines with respect to the positive measure possessing piecewise constant density. It is for such purposes that we consider one possible way for simple and fast evaluation of primitives of products of a polynomial B-spl...
In this paper we consider equidistant polynomial splines S(x) which may grow as O|x|s. We present an integral representation of such splines with a distribution kernel. This representation is related to the Fourier integral of slowly growing functions. The part of the Fourier exponentials herewith play the so called exponential splines by Schoenberg. The integral representation provides a flexi...
With ideal spatial adaptation, an oracle furnishes information about how best to adapt a spatially variable estimator, whether piecewise constant, piecewise polynomial, variable knot spline, or variable bandwidth kernel, to the unknown function. Estimation with the aid of an oracle ooers dramatic advantages over traditional linear estimation by nonadaptive kernels; however, it is a priori uncle...
We introduce curvature continuous regular free-form surfaces with triangular control nets. These surfaces are composed of quartic box spline surfaces and are piecewise polynomial multisided patches of total degree 8 which minimize some energy integral. The B ezier nets can be computed eeciently form the spline control net by some xed masks, i.e. matrix multiplications. k-free-form surfaces need...
A general theory of quasi-interpolants based on trigonometric splines is developed which is analogous to the polynomial spline case. The aim is to construct quasi-interpolants which are local, easy to compute, and which apply to a wide class of functions. As examples, we give a detailed treatment including error bounds for two classes which are especially useful in practice.
We study the reconstruction of cardinal splines f(t), from their average samples yn = f ∗h(n), n ∈ Z, when the average function h(t) has support in [−1/2, 1/2]. We investigate the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the following problem: for given dates yn, find a cardinal spline f(t), of a given degree, satisfying yn = f ∗ h(n), n ∈ Z. 1 Spline interpolation and average sampling First...
This paper presents a new method for partial volume estimation using standard eigenimage method and B-splines. The proposed method is applied on the multi-parameter volumetric images such as MRI. The proposed approach uses the B-spline bases (kernels) to interpolate a continuous 2D surface or 3D density function for a sampled image dataset. It uses the Fourier domain to calculate the interpolat...

Recently, we have introduced spaces of splines deened on triangulations lying on the sphere or on sphere-like surfaces. These spaces arose out of a new kind of Bernstein-B ezier theory on such surfaces. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the development of a constructive theory for such spline spaces analogous to the well-known theory of polynomial splines on planar triangula-tions. ...
