The fractal scaling properties of the heartbeat time series are studied in a controlled ergometric regime using the Hurst rescaled range R/S analysis. The long-time ”memory effect” quantified by the value of the Hurst exponent H > 0.5 is found to increase during progresive physical activity at healthy subjects in contrast to those having stable angina pectoris (SAP), where it is decreasing. We ...

OBJECTIVE This study was undertaken to determine the relationship between the red cell distribution width (RDW) and the one year outcomes in Chinese patients with stable angina pectoris. METHODS A total of 1,442 patients with stable angina pectoris on admission were divided into four groups according to quartiles of the baseline RDW. The relationships between the RDW and one-year cardiac mort...

The objective of this paper was to investigate the effects of a Chinese Materia Medica variant -Fubao Danggui Jiao (FDJ)-on experimental endometriosis. An endometriosis model was created by virtue of auto-transplantation of endometrial tissue onto rats' abdominal walls. The implants were allowed to grow for 30 days until the successful completion of the model. After that, forty endometriotic ra...

One hundred fifty AAC(6')-Ib-positive gram-negative isolates collected between 1981 and 1991 were examined by PCR for the presence of the aac(6')-Ib-cr variant and other plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes. None had the aac(6')-Ib-cr variant, qnrA, qnrS, qnrC, or qepA, but two strains collected in 1988 had qnrB alleles, making these the earliest known PMQR genes.

Unstable angina is a clinical diagnosis that may present with or without electrocardiographic changes. The "giant R wave" on electrocardiogram has been reported as a manifestation of acute ischemia; however, it is a rare finding in current clinical practice. We describe a case of a patient with unstable angina and a transient "giant R wave" pattern with a culprit lesion in the right coronary ar...

Unstable angina has only been recognized as a distinct entity for about 50 years. The term is used to describe a symptom complex that is neither stable angina pectoris nor acute myocardial infarction. There are a number of other terms used to describe essentially the same symptom complex; these include pre-infarction angina, crescendo angina, intermediate coronary syndrome and threatening infar...

BACKGROUND The long-term prognosis of patients with variant angina presenting with aborted sudden cardiac death (ASCD) is unknown. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term mortality and ventricular tachyarrhythmic events of variant angina with and without ASCD. METHODS Between March 1996 and September 2014, 188 patients with variant angina with ASCD and 1,844 patie...

Thirty-five patients with typical Prinzmetal's variant angina were studied by coronary cineangiography. There was no demonstrable stenosis of the major coronary arteries in 19 patients. Nine patients with single coronary stenosis underwent aortocoronary bypass and had recurrence of the symptoms postoperatively. Administration of nifedipine effected complete cessation of the symptoms among patie...

The effects of drugs were evaluated in 47 cases with variant angina (VA), 19 with resting angina showing ST depression (RA), and 84 with unstable angina (UA). In VA patients, calcium antagonists were effective in 87.1% of the cases, while other drugs were effective in 56.3%. The difference was statistically significant. In RA patients, calcium antagonists were effective in 80.0% of the cases an...

BACKGROUND Unstable angina is associated with enhanced lipid peroxidation and reduced antioxidant defenses. We have previously reported aspirin failure in the suppression of enhanced thromboxane (TX) biosynthesis in a subset of episodes of platelet activation in this setting. We tested the hypothesis that the in vivo formation of the F(2)-isoprostane 8-iso-prostaglandin (PG)F(2alpha), a bioacti...
