Myxoid/round cell liposarcoma (MRCL), unlike other soft tissue sarcomas, has been associated with unusual pattern of metastasis to extrapulmonary sites. In an attempt to elucidate the clinical features of MRCL with metastatic lesions, 58 cases, from the medical database of Keio University Hospital were used for the evaluation. 47 patients (81%) had no metastases, whereas 11 patients (11%) had m...

The high rate of pulmonary metastases of osteosarcoma (OS) presents a therapeutic challenge in the field of orthopedics. Therefore, there is a marked requirement to establish a spontaneous pulmonary metastasis animal model of OS, within which potential antitumor agents may be evaluated for their ability to inhibit the growth and pulmonary metastasis of OS, as well as to identify potentially ass...

BACKGROUND Excavated pulmonary metastasis are rare. We present two cases of excavated pulmonary nodules proved to be metastases from osteosarcoma and gallblader lymphoma. CASE PRESENTATION The first one is 39-year-old man in whom cholecystectomy made the diagnosis of primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the gallbladder. He presented in chest CT scan excavated nodules that had been biopsied and c...

Primary extracranial and extraspinal meningiomas are very rare tumours, and primary pulmonary ones are even more uncommon. They present as a solitary pulmonary nodule, and most of them are benign, except for three cases. We describe a primitive atypical pulmonary meningioma first suspected of being a metastasis in a patient during follow-up ten years after therapy for breast cancer.

OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to evaluate the clinicopathological characteristics and the effect of therapy of brain metastasis from renal cell carcinoma. METHOD Of 306 cases with renal cell carcinoma treated at Keio University Hospital from June, 1976 to May, 1996, 20 (6.5%) developed brain metastasis. Metastasis-free rate and survival rate were evaluated by Kaplan-Meier's method ...

Arrest of circulating tumor cells in distant organs is required for hematogenous metastasis, but the tumor cell surface molecules responsible have not been identified. Here, we show that the tumor cell alpha3beta1 integrin makes an important contribution to arrest in the lung and to early colony formation. These analyses indicated that pulmonary arrest does not occur merely due to size restrict...

BACKGROUND/AIM Our purpose in this retrospective study was to determine the ratio of unexpected [metastases within the coverage area of thorax computed tomography (CT)] and unknown (metastases out of the coverage area of thorax CT) metastases by positron emission tomography/CT (PET/CT) in patients with newly diagnosed non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who had no defined metastatic lesion, and ...

Pulmonary metastatic tumors in two patients with locally well controlled uterine cancer were treated with bronchial arterial infusion chemotherapy. The first patient underwent a radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy for stage IIb cervical cancer. Fifteen months after the operation, pulmonary metastasis was identified. Clinical evidence of tumor was negative after bronchial arterial in...
